Midnight Madness

1) What "events" were you expecting? The 10 minute lecture being read from a teleprompter reference was Calipari at UK's MM.

2) The free play was just like the old Bluff City Classic. All offense and no defense. It wasn't going to be a hard-nosed scrimmage/practice or anything.

I never expected there to be hard nose defense. But when the defense is worse than that in Rocky Top League (which I am sure you've never seen as you probably haven't been up to Knoxville in themiddle of the summer recently) then there is an issue.

For the uneducated, the "Midnight Madness" events are not real practices. They are for fans and players to have fun and kickoff the season. If you are expecting hard nosed defense and drills head to the campuses the next mornings when the real work begins.

You are absolutely correct! You do those when you have the fan support to support such an activity. When you don't, you look stupid.
