No postseason this year, scholarship reductions the next two seasons, reduced recruiting days and forfeiture of 'AA Tournament money received while OJ Mayo was on the roster. Utterly amazing.

Why would he do that?

Can they appeal this? I am kind of rooting for KO to do well there. This would be a fairly large impediment.

No, they're self imposed. I'll be interested to see if they release the alleged facts they are basing these actions on. If they state they found Louis Johnson's allegations against Tim Floyd to be credible, look for lawsuits to start flying. Tim won't take it sitting down.

You still don't think Tim Floyd did it?

I apologize for my ignorance... I really don't understand why an AD would do that. Especially two years of penalties, when the coach they claim was responsible for the infraction is gone and you are only hurting the new guy.

Handed Rodney Guillory a wad of cash in broad daylight in a Brentwood shopping center? Uh,no. That probably has something to with the fact Johnson gave a specific time and date. USC just happened to be holding practice at the date and time Johnson gave.

Most people don't use their 13th scholarship. The only really tough penalty to swallow is no postseason play this season. This group has really busted their collective ass to exceed expectations. Now, they've got nothing to play for. Wouldn't be surprised to see them go completely in the tank.

He wants to make the punishment harsh enough that the 'AA accepts it and doesn't investigate further.

What do you think were KO's first words in reaction? I know they can't be published on this board, but I would bet Garrett got an earful.

If KO can hold this together and get these guys to play as they have been the past few weeks he should be national coach of the year, find another job and publicly rip Mike Garrett for the next year at every opportunity.

I'm sure he's not really upset, because he knew something along these lines were coming. SC was, to their credit, honest with him in the hiring process. When I talked to him when I was out for the UT game, I got the impression Garrett was going to try and get ahead of things. This just strikes me a reckless and unnecessary move. It doesn't help the football situation and might set off a legal war with Floyd. Can't see how it's worth it.

I'm just a little surprised he stepped down. I really don't know much about the situation.

Was anything going to happen as far as football goes anyways?

Legal war with Floyd? Because they are saying he did some things that were illegal?

garrett knows if the football team goes on probation that it's his arse on the line, not pete carroll. and a simple look at the basketball team's attendance will tell you how much the alumni care about basketball.

It depends on what they say the reasons for the sanctions are. The initial release says it has to do with the relationship between Mayo and Guillory. If that's their basis, there's no real problem. However, if they state the alleged payment from Floyd to Guillory is a factor, all Hell will break loose. That would put Tim in a position of either fighting SC's findings or facing a Show Cause finding from the 'AA, which would make it near impossible for him to ever get another college job. I'm not sure he wants, but I'm certain he's not going to have that option taken away for something he vehemently denies having done.
