UT only has 1.8M in the bank where most of the other SEC schools have 50-100M.......????

What did Hammie and Cheek do???
That kind of shoots holes in the "we can afford anyone" theory??
At the end of the day, I guess this hire needs to be a "Pearl" type hire............at least exciting the base, fannies in the seats and selling more popcorn???

Continues to amaze me how much Hamilton screwed up UT over his body of work..... :banghead2:

When I complained about Hamilton, it was always met with "but he's a great fundraiser."

Well, I have asked several times with no answer, where did the money go? Is it in Africa with him? Did it get transferred to the academic side of the university? Or, was he just a walking figment of imagination?

Does anyone know?

Just heard that the winner of the BCS game in Miami this year is worth bout 40M..............40M....guess thats why College Presidents have lost control and the head coach runs the show.
Winning means Jack...........major Jack.

From the press conference it sounds like a lot of our revenue from athletics goes to the university and not back into the athletic program. This may be one of those competitive disadvantages hart was talking about correcting.

Bad football decisions probably took quite a bit of it. Loss in revenue from stadium seating/food sales, legal bills from NCAA issues, firing coaches. In addition, the football upgrades took quite a bit. If they make the right hire and get back to winning, the money situation will fix itself.

Yep.. Doug Matthews even talked about it at length on Big Orange Sunday..

Horrible negotiating

When you are already offering considerably more in salary than anyone else is willing to pay, why do you agree to a huge buyout ?

Or why do you continually give raises when there is no one bidding against you for a coach's services, and they are already making enough in a year to last a lifetime ?

And on a physical level, he looked soft:eek:lol:

Happens to every out-of-control program. If UT had kept on winning, it probably would never have been noticed or would have been masked by the dollar stream. But when UT started sucking on the field, the revenue became tight and all of a sudden, the athletic side of the house is broke.

Do not expect a Hollywood hire here folks when we get a new coach. It's not in the financial picture at all. UT may be the next Ole Miss football program. That is; our best years are behind us for a while.

This is what I preach every f-ing day. You can't be prosperous by being frugal. Sometimes you have to believe in yourself, believe in your people and believe that if you invest wisely, big, big dividends will come. In Hammy's tenure, we have supposedly raised great money but spent it on crappy deals with suspect coaches. Ridiculous.

Hamilton was a full on idiot. Gave Fulmer a contract extension. Not like he was going anywhere fellas. Had virtually no buy out for Kiffin. Then put a huge buyout on Dooley to correct his mistake for not putting enough on Kiffin. Here is the deal. If Hart hires the right coach. You can basically put this issue to rest. If he swings for the homerun hire then you will go from 20-40K empty seats to full in a matter of months. Neyland will litterally be packed every week if the fans have a reason to be excited.

Hyams touched on this subject this morning on Nashville sports radio. He said the amount of money the UT AD gives to the university is unprecedented. No other AD in the country gives its university what UT does. If it didn't operate that way, it'd probably have around $50 million in reserves.

That's paraphrasing what Hyams said on 104.5 this morning.

Where did the money go? Paying coaches several million dollars not to coach (Fulmer, Raleigh...Pearl, perhaps?).

Quoting from UTSPORTS.COM - University of Tennessee Athletics - Facilities
Since 2008, Tennessee opened new facilities for tennis, basketball, swimming, golf and softball. During that same time, Neyland Stadium, Lindsey Nelson Stadium and Thompson-Boling Arena have also undergone significant renovations.

Here's a window into some of the expenditures (talks about some of the building $ defrayed by donors):

And let's not forget *potential* revenue loss in outsourcing ticket sales to IMG, food vendor revenues by shifting some of it to outside restaurants. While we're at it, I'm sure a lot of merch revenue was left on the table, too. I'd love it if we were a Nike school again, but when all of your games are on ESPN8 at best, that's not exactly exposure for the brand.

Oh, and jacking up student activity fees don't begin to make up the difference.
