Purdy: Mike MacIntyre's miracle at San Jose State - Inside Bay Area

I would like to know how Hart's interview with MacIntyre went.

What's that? He didn't talk to him? Too busy trying to get the boosters off of his back when the Strong hire fell through?

How about that Butch Davis interview? He put together the greatest roster ever assembled.

What? Needed to get a coach in place ASAP because he was catching flack?

Well, I know he talked to Tommy Tubervile. A proven SEC winner who dominated Bama.

What? Cincinnati? They upgraded from Butch Jones to Tuberville??????WHAT???????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!????????????????????????????

Time to move out of your parents' basement and move on.

I see a lot of name calling in this thread, but not one sliver of evidence that we did not make a horrendous hire compared to our other options.

Is this thread a joke? You thought the fan base didn't react well to the Butch Jones hire, this would have caused riots.

One man has built a program and out recruited his competition. The other let two programs atrophy. Do some research? I had never heard of him myself until about a month ago.

If a bigger name was a must, though, Davis and Tubervlle would have sufficed.

Dooley was a horrendous hire. This maybe a panic hire but it is an upgrade with a proven winner. Time will tell. Tubbs is a retread. MacIntyre was on the list (ya, i know). Anyone with sense would have chosen Butch over Those guys. Relax and cheer for your team, or if as i predict, secretly pull for failure so you can say "i told you so!"

Did you really want Hart to interview another former SEC coach's son with a losing record?

I say you post your resume, if it has credentials, I will support you for the AD position.

Absolutely. What he has done at San Jose State is nothing short of miraculous and unrivaled in the history of college football.

I don't get the animosity towards Jones. He accepted the job that 3-4 coaches turned down. He wants to be here. Lets give him a chance. If he fails, roast him.

I understand this point but what people don't understand is that we are at the precipice of being another Colorado/Syracuse/has been. This hire was huge. Dave Hart botched it. Talent and money will be nowhere to be found three years from now when we make the change. In fact, the 2012 is the most talented team you will see at Tennessee before 2020, IMO.

Look at Arkansas. They go it right. It's a sad day to be a Volunteer.

I generally agree.

Butch Davis should have been our #1 choice.
I don't really trust MacIntyre's recruiting connections, but I like him and would certainly prefer him to Jones.
Not a big Tuberville fan.

If we were doomed to go the non-BCS route (excluding Charlie Strong), I would have gone after someone like Dave Doeren. Willie Taggart will be a good coach as well.

So a coach with a sub 500 winning percentage is doing something unrivaled and miraculous?? That's a laughable statement and shows your ignorance. Coach Jones has won everywhere he had been while also improving the recruiting of said school. I think you need to step away from the boards for a while because its messing with your ability to think rationally.

Butch Davis turned us down two years ago and now that he is out of a job is willing to come here. Thanks but no thanks.

Blatantly distorts the fact that he turned a cluster, never-was, bottom of the barrel, nothing of a team into a Top 25 one. And he's leading the WAC in recruiting.

And how about you step away from the boards if you want pride to dictate a hire like this.

MacIntyre has a losing record because SJSU was 2-10 when he got there. They're now 10-2. By contrast, Butch Jones took over a 12-1 Sugar Bowl team and has since led them to zero BCS bowls and a 9-3 record.

Butch Davis turned us down two years ago and now that he is out of a job is willing to come here. Thanks but no thanks.

And this matters why?
