MIKE WILBON SAYS RICH RODRIGUEZ, CHARLIE WEIS WILL BE FIRED AFTER 2009 SEASON | With Leather - Sports news and gossip, panda sex, and the occasional Toonces the driving cat Photoshop

Post columnist and ESPN talking head Michael Wilbon went onto Tony Kornheiser’s radio show earlier today, claiming that “on pretty good authority” he knew that two head coaches from prominent programs–Rich Rodriguez of Michigan and Charlie Weis of Notre Dame–would not be returning for 2010.

We pretty much wrote this post a week ago so the only thing we can add would involve the money element: Rodriguez has only been in Ann Arbor for two years and still has four years left on the deal he signed in early 2008. Weis is in a similar situation with the 10-year extension he signed in 2005. Each coach has a buyout clause in his respective deal worth enough to revitalize an African country of his choosing: $4 million for RichRod, and Weis is owed a whopping $18 million

Ehhh, I don't see RR being fired. He hasn't had enough time to get personnel in for his offense.

Weis, I can see, but hope they keep him. It makes me happy watching ND lose.

I am sure that we can find a GA position for either one or both of them.

Harbaugh will be at Stanford for a while. Get the Cardinal to the Rose Bowl and you can have any job you want. That's like Kentucky winning the SEC East.

Stanford was in the Rose Bowl earlier this decade. Kentucky has never won the SEC East.

I think Weis is much more likely to be out than RR. I think Weis get's one more year to show improvement. Weis on the other hand has failed to deliver on his selling points. His defense is horrid and the offense has has underachieved considering the play makers on that side of the ball. With the schedule ND had this year they should have had a much better record.

That was '99, and the Pac-10 was awful that year. Stanford got humiliated by Texas and lost to San Jose St. at home.

stanford will never have the fanbase or administrative support to pay harbaugh enough to stay.

If Rich Rod is fired, then the "Do things the Michigan Way" portion of the fan base is going to get the mediocrity they deserve.

Weis will be fired before RR...RR has at least 2 more years....JMO

Weis OTH, may be axed at the end of this year, especially if they don't win out

I like Rich, and think he's capable of winning multiple Big10 titles at Michigan....but, it's been a bad fit from the beginning.

Obviously, winning would change everything...but, his seat's been hot since the day he arrived. I don't think the university or the fanbase will be as patient as they need to be. If they can get Harbaugh, now may be the time to make the move.

The Michigan fans will embrace him...and he can't do any worse than what Rod has done in his first two years.

Im guessing Chuck's bags are already packed. I expect to see Rich at Michigan next year.

RR deserves at least one more year. If ND dowsn't show Weiss the door at the end of the season, they are stupid. After how Ty Willingham was treated, I see this as nothing more than Karma.

Weiss shouldn't have a prayer of being retained.

The program is no better off now than it was under Davie or Willingham. Of course, with the buyout he has coming, he's probably hoping to be fired.

The transition to the new offense is painful. WVU went from a 7 to 8 win team to a 3 win team as soon as Rich Rod got there, a lot like the situation in An Arbor. The fact is, he knows what he is doing. He won in WVU, and he will win in Ann Arbor. If Michigan gives him the chance, he and Tressel will share the conference. Otherwise, they'll have to gamble on a new hire.

If RR is fired by Michigan (I doubt it), wonder if WVU would want him back? lol

Somebody will take RR and end up being happy. Michigan needs to take a deep breath, unless they can get Harbaugh.

I think Michigan would be fine under Harbaugh.

The real losers in that scenario would be Paul Johnson, Dabo Swinney, Jim Grobe, and company. I have a feeling Rich would end up in the ACC, and make life hell for some of those guys.

If Michigan fires RR, it will be exactly like UK firing BCG last year. Both great coaches fired partly because of results and partly because they didn't get along with the fan base. Like UK basketball, Michigan is a great coaching job. However, I'm hoping they learn their lesson and hire a dud.
