So which one of these guys won't be at their current school next year? Will it be Miles, Richt, Spurrier, or some other SEC coach. (Vandy's coach not included.)

My take...

1. Miles - Even if he manages to hang on to his job, his seat will be hot enough for him to escape to Michigan when they axe RichRod.
2. Spurrier - If they underachieve he might retire in disappointment, if they meet or exceed expectations he might retire as the greatest coach in USCjr history...either way he's close to retirement.
3. Richt - I think he does enough to hang on. However, he better not lose to Vandy or UK, and he needs to win 2 out of 3 against UF, USCjr, and UT to avoid sweating it out.

Darkhorse: Houston Nutt - I don't see this one happening because this is one of those seasons when his team should overachieve given his track record. However, if they don't have a decent season, does Ole Miss get delusional again and run off a pretty good coach. (cough, Cutcliffe, cough)

Also, is this the year Gus Malzahn gets a major gig? Would he consider taking the Vandy job?

Thoughts?

Probably Richt but if it is Miles he isn't going to Michigan. They will make a run at Harbaugh with Stanford.

I agree about Harbaugh.. Not sure why people think Michigan would settle for Miles after 3 bad yrs at LSU.

Rich Rod is 8 times the coach Miles is. If they fire Rodriguez and the best they can do is Miles, they should just set the stadium on fire.

Desperation, imo

Yeah but I think their desperation will more likely result in them throwing a ton of money at a top candidate instead of having to settle for Miles. They're too good of a program to not get a legitimate HC.

They'd be better off giving Rich Rod a 4th and 5th year than seeing what Miles will do there.

miles cuz he gets top talent

up there with UF and Bama every yr recently

Georgia has had the most constant classes IMHO since 2002... here is my ROUGH breakdown based on rivals. I believe Georgia hasn't had a non-top 10 classes since rivals started. USC has by far had the best classes yet Carroll was never on the hot seat.

Miles seat will get much hotter if the offense doesn't move to the middle of the SEC ranking. I would say anything less than 4 losses this year is a good year based on youth and schedule.

Here is my stats on recruiting using Rivals stats from 2002-2009. Average class rankings(some rounding in there):

1.) USC 4.2 (NC 2004)
2.) Georgia 6.6
3.) LSU 6.7 (NC 2003/2007 and if it were not for bonehead Russell against AU and FL good chance for another in 2006... lol)
4.) UF 7.5 (NC 2006/2008)
5.) OK 7.7 (NC 2000*)

Other notables:
Florida State 8.7
Texas 9.5 (NC 2005)
Tennessee 10.6
Auburn 12.6
Ohio State 12.6 (NC 2002*)

* NCs before 2002 rivals class rankings started.

you should want miles gone if he cant turn all those top 3 classes into a real chance at a title i mean atleast make it to the SEC title or a BCS game

It doesn't matter what I want. I am telling you how it is, not how I want them to be. Miles has a huge contract remaining, as long as the team doesn't completely fail apart then I would suspect he will still be there. If the offense moves to the middle of the pack of the SEC, the heat will go away... if not, the heat will rise.

LSU is 2+ years away, very young team, when the 2009-2010-2011 classes come on board then it will be time again. Until then, it's development time.

He has turned those top classes into two SEC title games twice, in '05 and '07. He has turned them into BCS games twice, in '06 and '07. As for chances, in his 5 years he has finished first or second in the west 4 times and third once.

I am as big of a critic of his on-field prowess as you will find, and his teams the last two seasons have not lived up to those of his first three, but he beats the measure you have put out by a large margin.

Going 9-4/5-3, finishing second to NC Alabama in the West, and drawing a CapOne bowl bid isn't falling apart. If those are the results Miles gets in his rebuilding years, he will, and should, be around for quite a while.

Yes, they are either redshirt freshman or sophomores this year.... 2 more years and the 2010 and 2011 class will begin to come online as well. Plenty of redshirt freshman should be playing this year.... Mingo, Brockers, Davenport, Ford, Faulk, Loston, Minter, and Montgomery... still 2 years away IMHO.

Our 2007 and 2008 classes were very overrated. IMHO

I actually like the 2010 class better than the 2009 which was ranked higher.
