wcbstv.com - 'Millionaire's Tax' Could Fund NYC Mass Transit

Democrats' Answer To Congestion Pricing: Tax Anyone Working In State Making $1 Million-Plus

Under the plan, people who earn over $1 million in New York state will pay an income tax surcharge of about 3/4 of 1 percent for five years. In all, it would raise over $5 billion for mass transit.

"It's a good thing – they should pay their fair share," Manhattan resident Michael Neal said.

Just a early glimpse into the future?

Taxes never go away... not that I'm crying for the rich, but I can't see the liberal state of New York getting rid of that free flow of income...

Rich people don't work hard for their money. Take it from them.

Don't forgot the fact, that you pay a daily toll to get into the city...

NY is really setting the bar high:
No smoking
No trans fats
No millionaires

Is someone in New York planning on writing a sequel to Numbers, Deuteronomy, or Leviticus???

Right, because it's the rich who are weighing society down....not a big fan of this.

Lets punish the successful for being just that. We all know the rich are the ones who ride mass transit the most and pollute it with their success.

and now the idea was so good that they're trying to expand to the whole US.

WASHINGTON - House Democrats are proposing a tax surcharge on millionaires to pay for a big increase in education benefits for veterans of the war in Iraq, lawmakers said Tuesday.

The $1 million income level would apply to couples. Individuals would pay the surcharge on income exceeding $500,000.

"What we're talking about is a one-half percent income tax surcharge on incomes above $1 million," said Rep. Mike Ross, D-Ark., a leader of the Blue Dog group. "So someone who earns $2 million a year would pay $5,000. ... They're not going to miss it."

Democrats: happily deciding what to do with more of your money.

Democrats have the tough chore of finding the money. Republicans just like to spend it and pass the debt on to someone else.

It's like the analogy that every man has two personalities: "Day Guy" and "Night Guy". Night Guy likes to party, spend money, and stay up late. Day Guy pays the price for night guy's sins.

You honestly believe that? This administration has been terrible in that regard but you honestly believe this is a tough chore for the democrats? They have been doing this for years. Just tax the rich, shouldn't we all be paying our fair share. If we follow the line of thinking that a rich person should not miss $5,000.00 then someone making much less should not miss $100.00 right?

This is all crap anyway, cut the pork out of Washington scale down the government, and Washington needs to learn to do what many Americans already know which is live on less than you make.

Who's advocating spending more money? Take less and spend less is the obvious answer

If memory serves the dems are in control and it's still going. The only thing the current repubs did was make it easier for more of our money to be taken when they lost control.

If the gov't had to budget like many other Americans there would be no issues with spending. You would still have the people wanting to buy a $500k house on a $40k salary but most understand this doen't work

I'd like to see a labor tax. Everyone who is on welfare must work a week for the government for free. Now that makes sense.
