This is still tackle football, correct?

He glanced off the runner - no head-on collision/impact.

What am I missing?

Yes but usually you go after the fumble. It's definitely not paddy cakes but it's spring and you are teammates.

To support AJVol just a bit it is possible the safety didn't see the fumble. His vision was shielded by the lead blocker. I find it very hard to fathom that a teammate would maliciously hit another teammate like that on purpose.

Youre making a different argument than ajvol.
Ajvol's argument was that there was no head-on collision. Clearly that's not the case.

Everybody is going to get rid of these Spring games eventually.

well maybe just do more drill type stuff like UT does -- these games are mainly for the fans -- no need for the hits like the MSU player made -- coaches should stress that before the game

would you feel the same if it was us and our already thin RB depth if a walkon LB took that shot on John Kelly in a meaningless scrimmage?

if anything, since its practice every single tackle should be wrapping up, he went full missile shoulder to helmet on his teammate.

You might be able to argue that the defender didn't see the fumble however no matter how you slice it the defender lead with his helmet and finished with his helmet. That guy got knocked out and most likely received a concussion.

I knocked out a teammate once. It wasn't malicious and it didn't cause any issues with team chemistry. Of course I played a while back and realize it's a different world today. Im not at all trying to justify what the guy did either. Im just saying that it's football, the pace of play at the college level is really fast and things happen.
