Missing DA in Sandusky Case?

I read that the other day. I hadn't heard about this before. Had anyone else? This whole thing gives me the creeps and I'm afraid it's only going to get worse. God bless those boys. How awful.

"On July 30, 2005, fishermen discovered Gricar's county-issued laptop computer in the Susquehanna River beneath a bridge between Lewisburg and Milton. A Pennsylvania State Police computer expert analyzed the computer and found that its hard drive was missing. Divers searched the area of the river near where the laptop was found over the next several days, but found nothing else. Two months later, a hard drive was recovered on the banks of the Susquehanna River about 100 yards from where the laptop was found and is believed to be Gricar's; however, it was badly damaged, and analysis by the FBI, U.S. Secret Service and the firm Kroll Ontrack – were all unable to recover any data from the hard drive. In April 2009, Bellefonte police revealed that before his disappearance, Gricar used his home computer to perform internet searches on topics such as "how to wreck a hard drive", "how to fry a hard drive" and "water damage to a notebook computer".

So he just vanishes? Or commits suicide in a way that no one would find his body? Startling.

It's interesting that there were searches for destroying a hard drive but not on how to mysteriously vanish. Something is very fishy.

What if Joe Paterno did indeed report this to authorities and someone in a very high place put a stop to it?

It's possible that heat came down to this attorney and he bugged out and left before he was killed or committed suicide.

This latest investigation began in 2008. It took obviously until last week to make an arrest.

Let's say the 2002 investigation began when the GA and Joe Pa reported it, 2005 would have been an equivalent amount of time. Maybe arrests were fixing to be made then?

This whole thing stinks. In my opinion they will keep offering up sacrificial lambs until it goes away. I don't know if any of them are innocent, but I do know that is 2 separate investigations were shut down, someone in a very high place put a stop to it. I know they thought Joe Pa was God in that state, but this goes a lot higher up the food chain than him.

"A search of his vehicle did not indicate a struggle or any sign of foul play, but investigators did find cigarette ashes inside the vehicle. Some minute cigarette ash on the passenger's side," Bellefonte police officer Darrell Zaccagni told The Cleveland Free Times in 2005. "When they opened the car ... a cigarette smell came out of the car. Ray didn't smoke. And he never let anybody smoke inside his Mini Cooper. Ray was very fastidious about his car."

similarities to Sandusky case? Where there's smoke there's fire!

"Eventually, Victim 4 began to intentionally distance himself from Sandusky, not taking
his phone calls and at times even hiding in closets when Sandusky showed up at Victim 4′s
home. Victim 4 had a girlfriend, of whom Sandusky did not approve. Sandusky tried to use guilt
and bribery to regain time with Victim 4. Victim 4 had begun to smoke cigarettes and had
Sandusky buy them for him. Victim 4 also said that Sandusky once gave him $50 to buy
marijuana at a location known to Victim 4. Sandusky drove there at Victim 4′s direction and
Victim 4 smoked the marijuana in Sandusky’s car on the ride home."

And accounts cleaned out before the disappearance?

According to Tony Gricar, the one thing that never made sense to police was his uncle's financial situation.
"He was making a fair amount of money; but, at least from a forensic accounting standpoint, the thought is there that there should have been more cash,"

Hmm, very interesting. Maybe Sandusky told the victim that he was being investigated and unless the victim wanted his name all over the news that he needed to take care of the situation. I have very little doubt at this point that Sandusky is somehow involved in the DA's disappearance/murder.

It's a helluva stretch to say that it would be victim who had been smoking in the DA's car. Could have been anyone. But it does appear that someone other than the DA had been in the car very recently.

I seen a show called Missing, on ID TV a while back on this story. The PSU thing was not mentioned.

Investigators previously had disclosed that they had, through interviews, heard that Gricar was talking about ways to erase a hard drive with friends and colleagues about 16 months before he disappeared. A box for such software was seen at his house around January 2004.

“The investigation learned early on that Mr. Gricar had, in fact, purchased software to accomplish this,” Rickard said. “It was believed that pending Mr. Gricar’s retirement, he may have wanted to erase his county-issued laptop computer prior to returning the laptop to the District Attorney’s Office.”

I'm not Catholic, but would it be possible to let the whole Catholic thing go? The sex abuse scandal in the Catholic Church involves the bureaucracy of the clergy. Saying that a lay Catholic is therefore likely to abuse children is like saying that your average Penn State football fan is likely to rape little boys.

IIRC, he was married a couple of times and was living with a GF at the time of his disappearance.

Doesn't mean he wasn't erasing something nasty from his laptop, of course, although it would be pretty dumb to do that with his government-issued laptop. But then, people do dumb things all the time.

Why is that dumb? You dont know how it was set up, in that small town he may have picked it out himself and expensed the thing, or did the massive IT department at the State College courthouse issue it to him fully configured? lol

Its obvious there was information on that laptop that posed a threat to his safety....emails, contacts, details of his investigation.... and it got him killed. Pretty damn simple.

he busted the largest heroin ring in county history 1 month before he vanished

That's probably more relevant.
What I read said it wasn't tied to the Sandusky case.
I wonder why he never brought chargest against Sandusky.
Apparently he didn't think he had enough evidence to win the case?
