Mississippi Fires Kermit Davis

Why now? Season is literally 2 weeks from being over for them.

My guess is that they want to avoid the ‘risk’ of him winning the SECT, if they have already decided they would still want him replaced if that happened.

Seemed like a pretty sharp guy. But, that tantrum he pitched when Admiral took the charge was ridiculous. Revealed his idiocy that day.

Kermit was a good coach at MTSU. Ole Miss is not a very easy place to win in basketball. Best coach Ole Miss had in my lifetime was Bob Wheltlich. They won the SEC tournament in 1982, IIRC with him. Sean Tuohy played on that team.

Didn't that team have a big man named Stroud?

Kermit went to St. Paul’s in Murfreesboro (where I went when I lived there) when he was coaching MTSU and he seemed like a genuinely good guy. He had MTSU playing at a high level. I wish him well on whatever is next for him.

Considering Ole Miss is a small school with hardly any basketball history, I think it was insane for them to fire Davis.

Yeah, he did bad this year, but from my memory, I thought he did overall pretty good at Oxford.

Unless they are going to go after someone like Chris Beard, I don't think they are going to get a winning bball coach

In his final two seasons at OM, Kermit was 23-37 overall and 6-27 in conference play. Only two winning seasons in his five year tenure down there.

OM may not have a lot of tradition, but those results were never going to cut it. Nobody likes being the whipping post for the rest of the conference and that’s exactly what OM had become under Kermit’s watch.

Well Beard is certainly available and would lap Kermit as a coach quite easily. I don’t see it happening though.

Beard will be coaching next season. Ole Miss is like one of the better P5 opportunities he could realistically have… if he’s open to it, Carter has to make that hire 10/10 times….

And in regards to Beard’s personal life. The light is so far off him with the Oats/Miller situation…. I seriously doubt any school will get blowback for hiring Beard this off-season.
