Word from Starkville is this was suicide. College athletic departments will need to do a helping players with their mental health, especially when it comes to walk-ons. In spite of constantly being around teammates, walk-ons are always kind of on an "island." It's a tough spot.

Perhaps not the time (or place) for it, but perhaps Spyre should look into doing something for our walk-ons. I agree, it's a rough life chasing your dream when positive feedback may be in short supply.

I tried walking on. It sucked and that was 50 yrs ago. I was a good HS player but at college, no one cared if I was there or not. I finally quit & just became a student. Best thing I ever did but I felt a lot of guilt quitting. I later realized life wasn’t just that but it took some time to get over.

And from what i've read this young man was a real baller in HS. NW Mississippi state all star. You know it is tough to be the go-to guy on your hs team and then not be that in college. Of course what is beyond sad is that he is gone from a "long-term solution to a short-term problem" which almost always suicide is. Praying for whatever happened to his heart and mind.

If suicide, it is even worse. I look back at the things that bothered me in my earlier life, and wonder why they bothered me so much. Prayers for his family!

MSU's QB Will Rogers seemed to confirm this thought (without actually saying it) in a post about this young man where he referred to mental health awareness. Just a very sad situation. Prayers to his family and MSU teammates.
