The last that I read, Mitchell was working hard on being back for the UF game but didn't think that he would be. They said that he was very limited in what he could do right now. So I think that we'll be seeing Mayo.

Same here. I kept thinking Mitchell would be good to go but have read Cheif has named Mayo to start Saturday.

Well, Chavis seems to think that Mayo will be starting....or is at least thinking about it....

"It's sore, it's stiff and I'm limited in some of the things I can do," Mitchell said. "I wish I could go home and wake up in the morning and be able to play. I've been rehabbing everyday."

Mitchell said he wasn't able to sprint on the sore leg as of Tuesday afternoon. He said he'll continue to test the knee this week in hopes of playing.

If Mitchell can't play, Jerod Mayo will step into the starting lineup. Mayo, playing with the second string, was one of the surprising stars during pre-season practice. Mayo redshirted last season.

"I feel good about him playing; I have for a long time," Chavis said of Mayo. "If you're truly a second-teamer here, you're only one play away from being a starter."

Fulmer reported that linebacker Jason Mitchell should get the start at his outside linebacker position despite battling a knee injury from the UAB game. Freshman Jerod Mayo took over for Mitchell and finished with six tackles against the Blazers, but Mitchell forced an early fumble and plays a key leadership role on defense.

"Jason did everything today (in practice) and moved up to probable," Fulmer said. "Jason is going to start and is going to play. I don't know how much but that helps us a lot. He's worked hard to get himself back."
