Give CBJ a chance. We honestly have one of the worst fanbases going. CBJ hasn't even played one game and many fans have already decided he'll fail. The fact that he has winning record as the coach of two other schools means nothing. The guy had 7 weeks to recruit. We got what we could now STFU and let's see if he can bring back the days of hard-nosed fundamental football!

I would guess that 10-15 percent of people have already decided he'll fail, 10-15 percent have already decided he's a winner, and everybody else in between is taking a wait and see approach. Message boards make the polarization sound a lot worse than it really is.

How long did Malzahn have to recruit?

Did Jones make up ground on any other SEC team in those 7 weeks?

Does he get extra points for excuses?

As to the "worst fanbase" comment, do you have any idea what Florida fans were like when Zook was ther coach (a guy who could at the very least recruit)? How did that turn out?

Again, I predicted in writing on a post right after CBJ was hired that if we had an average recruiting class, this post would show up.

Florida's attendance would drop bigtime if they had just one season like we've seen the past few years.

Your the most negative fan I've seen on the board today. Do all of us a favor and go and jump on Bama or ATM's bandwagon. Malzahn was already here in the south recruiting kids, just had the transition over.

We only signed five four-star players today. The good teams in the conference signed three or four times as many. This was not an average recruiting class.

This x 1000.

There's a reason middle-grounders get run off of forums and out of social media circles so quickly. The internet is the gathering station for the fringe, radical, and extreme elements, and as such gives them a false sense of being in the majority due to the selective nature of these communities.

There will always be eternal optimists, pessimists, and everything in between. There's no changing that.

Malzahn started out with a highly ranked class. Jones started out with a terrible class. It's a whole lot different to defend a top 10 class than it is to improve a class in the 30s or 40s.

I agree but I did not want to be "that guy," my point was I predicted that now the word is: don't worry he is a great coach and stars don't really matter. :birgits_giggle:

We need to get stability in this program. He may lose alot in the begining but still may be the right coach for us. Remember, Majors had several losing seasons when he first arrived on campus. At this point, it could very well take us several seasons to rebuild.

2013 = 6 regular season wins and qualify for a bowl game.

2014 = Better recruiting class. 7 or 8 regular season wins and a bowl game.

2015 = Good recruiting class. 7 or 8 wins and a bowl game.

Recruits can now see stabilty and those riding the fence on their decision to attend U.T. will chose us, rather than have us as their second choice.

2016 = Good recruiting class. Major bowl game and chance at S.E.C. Championship game.

2017 = We have recovered as a program! recruiting is good. We are on good financial footing. We have attracted more young fans in their early and late 20's to be the future fans of U.T.

First signing class of CBJ era and already the hate going on about the class. WOW! We have been through a long tough stretch with hiring our 3 coaches in 5 years. We need to be thankful kids want to come play here being that our so called Loyal fan base is always bashing the signing class, current players and coaching staff. We ALL knew DD was not the answer.... 5th choice if you recall and 4 other coaches turned us down. So CBJ and his staff has a huge task ahead of them... But I tell you what.. They will earn their pay and earn the respect that is so overdue from our so call real vol fans. How you call yourself a fan but yet bash our program..Shame on YOU! When the victories start coming this year.. Stay away. We dont want any of your hater aid to rubb off. GO VOlS 4 Life.

you alluded to this more than once. Malzahn was only gone from Auburn for 1 year(correct me if I'm wrong).....some of these kids he likely started recruiting before he left so he had a long relationship. He went to a school that was still in the region so he likely continued to recruit several players. additionally he's very familiar with Auburn having been there before. you can not compare his situation (having been a part of the NC team with Cam) to CBJ at TN.

This post represents the absolute best-case scenario for the next few years and is the most realistic positive post I've seen today.

So at what point does Jones make strides to improve his lot? Or is it always going to be "x started with this, poor Butch Jones didn't have that, so he can't succeed"?

Looking Forward to seeing the VOls this year and at least I know this.... O Line will dominate the SEC, we beat Oregon, We beat Georgia, South Carolina, Vandy, Kentucky, Florida and finish the season with a 10- 2 record and or a 9-3 record. Going Bowling to a BCS Bowl too. The tables have turn and you can bet therte will e no blown assignment coverage on defense this year. Impact Ball out players will be:
Offensive
Entire O LIne and our Tackles will be the best in the nation
QB Worley - Will break records
Surpize new comer WR - North will make us forget JS
RB - R. NEal will rush for 1,000 yards
Slot WR will be better than advertised

Defensively
AJ- will ball out all american style
DE- Jaqueze S will be a beast
DT= Daniel M- will recking havoc
DE Jordan will make plays
DB Randolph will have 8 INT picks 4 of them Pick 6

CBJ - Coach of the year

Enought SAID!!!!

Yeah, it's funny how the "we shouldn't expect to win more than 7-8 games for the next 4 years" crowd don't understand why most fans don't want to shell out for season tickets anymore.

I stated in another thread and the same Ole ass clowns attacked me when I said " Thats why we needed to hire solid DC & OC that could draw recruits! " It wasn't a knock on these coaches it's just the truth . We paid huge money for Big East Assistant Coaches and Until they prove they can hang with the big dogs our recruiting will be average! I am how ever smart enough to know that all great coaches start some where and I sure Hope We have some real winners here!

To answer one of your questions. A lot of the Auburn recruits already knew Malzahn from 2 yrs ago when he was OC. So he had a head start on Jones. To comment on another. Don't care about the Fla fanbase but the one's here are getting pretty bad. Complaining about every little thing that happens.
