New government regulations require us to HIDE taxes in your fares.

Obviously, I want to have my taxes shown and known at the time of purchase, but I can kind of (kind of) see the point made that some airlines advertise false ticket prices.

Maybe the happy middle ground would be for the govt to lower the taxes??? That way the low cost airlines can still advertise cheaper flights?

I don't support it. Airlines that disclose everything up front can destroy other airlines in marketing campaigns. If no companies are disclosing all fees, then I guess the market doesn't care enough for that to demand it. Ultimately regulation means prices go up, so this won't be saving us money.

For me that seems to be more in the area of regulation that I am comfortable with -- not installing incentives but just providing structures like disclosure so consumers can make decisions based on clear accurate information

Full disclosure is always best. I guess thinking about it even more, the taxes are the issue.

I'm okay if it allows for more transparency. Maybe if people see how much tax they are paying on flights they'll get up in arms about it.

It doesn't always work out that way. I'll type more when I'm at a computer

that'll make a difference. Our modern government, made up almost exclusively of pols who are buying votes and raising money over 90% of the time, isn't about to relinquish any cash stream it can get its grips into. How else could we perpetuate these gov't careers?

if Americans saw all the taxes they paid on every type of purchase, maybe they would be inclined to deman less spending by the government.
