Mizzou not changing

The truth is this — and it’s all marketing Nike has done — but we have facts for the University of Missouri and not just football, but our brand is Mizzou and that Tiger head. When people see that Tiger head they know there’s only one like that in the world. And it’s ours. And there’s only one Mizzou in the world.

Yeah, and there is only one Kensucky and Candy in the world too. Whats your point?

Yeah, they did alright in the Big 12. No need to change anything. Keep running that qb.

He's talking about (in what you quoted) the M logo on their helmets (& previously their main logo) and their decision to change to their tiger logo. Check out the rest of the quote.

That being said, on ESPN you can have Oklahoma’s helmet up there and our M helmet and when you flash by it, a lot of people won’t know who that is. Most people if they glanced at it probably thinks it’s Michigan. Even though Michigan doesn’t have an M on their helmets, that’s what they’d think.

There's a (somewhat) uproar in their fan base about their doing away with their classic block M logo in favor of their tiger head logo. As he at least attempts to note in the next part, the university chose to do this for a reason. Missouri (along with Nike) did a study about their logos, the recognition, and their marketability, and it showed a poor association/recognition by the average person or fan with regards to the current M used towards the university and its teams. When it was presented completely on its own, quite a bit (not sure whether it was just an unfavorable percentage or a most) seemed to think (or guess) it was supposed to be Michigan. (The study showed some more regular recognition with the tiger logo than they did with the block M.)

Pretty much the same thing with the comment above (in what you quoted) about Mizzou. People were picking up better that the university's teams were the topic when Mizzou was used. As such, the university decided to change the "Missouri" spelled out in the endzone to "Mizzou."

That's all that quote was. If anything, he seems to just be saying to the upset portion of the fans (or expressing frustrations, probably from constantly hearing their complaining or getting their emails) that it's what it is, the university made its decision, did so for a very good reason, and this is the direction it's going to head. (with possibly some "I can understand where you're coming from" and/or some "stop coming at me about it (...not the main guy here)")

Totally off topic, and no disrespect, but am I the only one that thought the visor he has on in the pic looks like one of those with the fake hair? It's a bad camera angle.

When I see the block M on about anything I see it as Michigan. Unless you're close and see that it's black with gold trim or the gold with black trim.

I don't have a problem with the change. I liked the pro combat uni's too. Although I don't want Nike to be calling all the shots.

They didn't move from the Sun Belt to the NFL here. They will very likely be about the same type of program in the SEC as they were in the Big XII.
