I posted over in another thread my arguement for this type of playoff....well, here's how it would have shaped up, along with a little speculation as to who would've won...but it goes like this....ALL CONF. CHAMPS GET IT...ALL OF THEM. ND gets in as well, so that's 12 teams. then there are 4 at large/wild cards taken from the next highest BCS ranked teams that did NOT win their conf....here goes:

1st round:
1. USC v. 16 Ark. St
2. TX v. 15 N. Illinois
3. PSU v. 14 Tulsa
4. OSU (at large) v. 13 Boise St.
5. Oregon (at large) v. 12 FSU
6. Notre Dame v. 11 TCU
7. UGA v. 10 WVU
8. Miami (at large) v. 9 Auburn (at large)

These games would be played at the home sites for the top 8 teams....

2nd round incorporates Bowl Tier, and the bowls can be debated, but i just took 4 of the top 7...

1 USC v. 9 Auburn in Orange Bowl
2 Tx v 7 UGA in Captial One
3 PSU v 4 ND in Peach
4 OSU v 12 FSU in Holiday

3rd round, inc. the next tier bowls...
1 USC v 4 OSU in Fiesta
2 Tx v 6 ND in Sugar

4th round...
1 USC v 2 Tx in Rose

Here's the beauty part...11 teams represent the BCS conf. the Big East and Big 12 only have 1 each...so the Pac 10, Big 10, SEC and ACC all have two each...and only 4 teams from small conf.

in summary...the BCS conf. still reep the benefit from a money stand ponit. The little guy gest their shot. It's settled on the feild.

USC vs. Arkansas State...

yeah, i know...but it's no different that the bball tourney...when you get Duke vs. St. Mary's scholl for the blind in the opening round....Plus that's why round one would be played at the higher seeds home feild....your not going to get people to travel to four games, esp. if one is against a tema like that....and if you're USC, as the #1 seed, you reep the benefit by getting that last place seed....

Plus the point is, everybody gets what they want...the little guy get his shot, even though i will conced most of the 1st round matchups listed above don't exactlyl get the juices going....but in the end, it's geared toward the big schools playing each other, the big conferences still get the money they want, and fans get some great games to watch...

And if that doesn't work...eliminate the sunbelt and WAC and give the top two seeds byes...

My only point is there should be a qualifier to get in to the playoffs other than just where you are ranked....

I can already hear the arguments from the likes of LSU and Va Tech who won their divisions but got jumped by the #2 teams in their divisions all because they lost in their conference championship games.

I agree, but it's not like they didn't have their shot at it...it gets settled on the feild, period. You don't win your conf., you don't get the auto bid.

Plus i should have included in the original message, that all conf. champions should be crowned the same way...either all have champ. games or none have champ. games.

Because you are exactly right...both teams you mentioned, unless all conf. are decied the same way, basically played penalty games where a team like Oregon and Miami move up in the polls by simply not playing....

either way, at some point the NCAA needs to step in and set it up in the interest of gamesmanship and fairness so that there is some sort of level playing feild for all involved.

Well, basketball is not all decided the same way. There are still major conferences out there with no post season tournaments.

that doesn't make it right does it? and there are 64 teams in the bball tourney...when you start with 16, the requirements should be a little stricter...dont' you think? you'd need to remove as much doubt as possible as to who belongs in and who doesn't.

and the bball tourney brackets are determined by what? oh yeah, a committee based on opinions...you've got confs. out there that do and don't have conf. tourney's, conf. champs all get in, and then the others are "determined" by a group of peopel and thier opinion of where this team should play and what seed they should be....and when that's not enough, let's have a play in game between 64 and 65 to see who gets in that last spot...but what about 66 or 67? 64 freakin' teams get in every year, and there's someone always left at 65 that's got a legitamate beef about not getting in....

sometimes less is more.

Doesn't make it wrong either though. :D

If I had my way there would be a BCS +1 system and that would be it. That would basically be a de facto 4 team playoff. Whether they go to a +1 or a 8, 12, or 16 team playoff, somebody is going to get left out invariably.

that's why there should be a qualifier to get in to the playoff...not just based on the polls...

the NFL does it right. there is no debate. You win, you're in. no style points. no opinions. win and advance, period.

why? cause there's a qualifier to get in to the playoffs...not a bunch of so called experts saying this team is deserving and this one's not....that's my only point.

I had an idea very similar to this a few years ago. It seems so simple dosen't it? I think something like this could work.

yeah, it could work, but the presidents don't want it....the bowl sponsors don't want it...it would take some serious pocket lining to get something like this done in the future...But can you imagine the amount of money to be made on something like this? it would get ridicuolous i'm sure.

the TV rights alone would probably be astronomical....
