The shortstop signee still seems very interested in college life, and he made it sound like he'd wait for Vols to sort out their program.

Mookie is a huge get for us. We don't need to lose the key players in this class due to not having a coach. I know the signed players have not heard a word from anyone from the program since Raleigh was released. Posted via VolNation Mobile
I agree but Mookie is very smart and his family doesn't need the money, his mother also really wants him to go to college. It will depend on the hire for sure. Posted via VolNation Mobile
I'll let you know when I hear something. He and my son are very close, played on same team together the last 7 years. I would have said he'd go to college...but the Red Sox are known for paying up to get their guys. My guess is $500k plus college and he goes.
On the other hand...I know he is very excited about going to UT with his friends.
I had heard before the draft that he was going to be offered close to $600k to sign but college is very important to his family. I still say if the new coach comes in and wins over mom he will be a Vol! Posted via VolNation Mobile

If college is that important, it should not be much a of a stretch for him to negotiate that the club have to pay for his tuition after his career or at intervals in the offseason. Common practice.
