they offered 300k but his family feels like that was a low ball offer. i don't know what his number is, but if the red sox don't raise their offer he'll be in orange.

Absent a much bigger $ offer from Boston, he'll be at UT. Yes, I KNOW this.

We are the same age and I have played against him a lot over the years. The kid is a freak. He is simply on another level. He has the "it" factor. He will produce next year if he comes to UT.

Played ball with him the other day and he seemed to want to sign but wanted bigger money.

#Tennessee sources feeling cautiously optimistic about #RedSox 5th-rdr Mookie Betts, but I'd put it at 55-45 for #Vols. Either way #mlbdrafter

@ChrisHogan21 Sounds doubtful, Mookie Betts has apparently turned down 2nd round money. $ may have been reallocated to Golson.

In other Red Sox draft news, the team is increasingly pessimistic about the likelihood of getting a deal done with fifth-rounder Mookie Betts. The shortstop with a commitment to the University of Tennessee was viewed earlier this summer as likely to sign. However, he has recently rejected a bonus typically in line with slot recommendation for a second rounder. Betts has yet to take a physical with the Sox, and while the possibility of a thaw in negotiations cannot be ruled out, the Sox are prepared to reallocate the money that they had earmarked for Betts’ signing to other draftees.

Damn, if I were him I'd take the money and run.
