WARNING: Video is not graphic at all in terms of blood content but the animal dies regardless.

"A moose that is walking toward you is not signifying an interest to be touched or photographed. Rather, it is likely a warning. Moose signal an impending attack commonly by stomping their feet, laying their ears back against their heads, or behaving aggressively."

Wow! I would have tried a warning shot first but he had already been attacked so he was probably pissed and frightened.

Yeah. It did seem unnecessary. Then again I haven't been attacked by a moose.

me either but I have encountered animals in the woods that would do serious damage. Never had to shoot one though (although I did fire warning shots once)

Have they actually attacked you though? I mean I hate to cast judgment on someone after they were attacked already. He didn't even pull his weapon until after the moose had already attacked him. It's easy to look at the video and say how one may have reacted differently. I am prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt here.

they did not since I removed myself from the situation instead of moving closer and risk agitating the animal

I may or may not have done that in the same situation but I surely wouldn't put it on the internet.

Have you ever riden a snow mobile? He was in a deep rut. No reverse, he really had to go forward. He was probably counting on the moose to move away when he went forward. Leaving the machine would have been stupid.

he didn't have to go forward he chose to approach the very large animal. It was stupid but I'm sure he's getting crazy likes on the glock forums

hate to see that but don't blame him. Big animal had just come within inches of the guy and was turning around to possible come back. Why take a chance.
Or say he shouldn't have and get mauled in the middle of the woods. You can't get off the snowmobile or turn around.

This guy lost out on a great story for the grand kids by having video evidence. He could have gone to his grave talking about how he was nearly beaten to death by an ANGRY, RAMPAGING moose. Luckily their grandpappy had his trusty pistol, and with his last bit of strength, he looks the beast in the eyes and fires off a shot.

Now his future grand kids will really know that pop pop didn't feel like making a detour on his snowmobile. Pops kept going forward and after he got popped in the face by the moose pops shoots the animal in the back. Man, grandad was kind of a jerk.

If you watch the video he did go toward the moose closing the distance about half way. In my opinion he left an appropriate amount of distance between he and the moose. I would have think he didn't expect the moose to react that way with him on a snow mobile. The moose closed the rest of the distance and eventually attacked him. The moose then backs off but appears to be turning to charge again. Like I said, after the attack it's hard to predict how one may respond to a situation like that.

Don't people hunt moose? Why don't we give people who hunt deer a bunch of bs? At least this guy was in real danger, unlike some joker in a tree stand.

I did watch the video and have an issue with his "appropriate amount of distance" between him and a large, agitated animal. There was no need to get closer. He obviously didn't understand that action put him in more danger. No real crime in not knowing (well, until the wildlife officers get involved) but his actions were not smart

I don't think he was approaching just for the heck of it. Nowhere to go but forward and probably thought the moose would run away. He literally had nowhere to go.

So how long do you think he should have waited him out? The moose didn't appear to be going anywhere anytime soon. He can't turn around or back up.

There is absolutely no way this guy will get in trouble with wildlife officials. The moose had already attacked and was turning to charge again.

he could have stayed still and see if the moose would pass. Approaching the animal put him in more danger
