More Godfather?

I'm "on the fence" on this one. Mario Puzo is dead. Santino, Vito and Micheal are dead. I can't imagine a 4th Godfather story that would be worthy.

I do think that the Puzo estates should "go to the mattresses" on this tho.

Exactly. I may be the biggest Godfather fan in the world. I read the book twice. I read the Sicilian. I read the annotated script. I've seen the movie 100 times. How on earth would this book tarnish the movie's legacy? It's so stupid. Paramount just wants to prevent other people from making money on a franchise they helped to brand.

Copyright law is not protecting Puzo (the artist) and innovation. It's protecting the large corporation.

BTW, the Sicilian was written about the years Michael was in Sicily. The way to make this book a winner is to make it a prequel about Don Vito's career between the Fanucci murder and the war that happens 10 years before the first book/movie takes place.

I wouldn't read it, though, unless it had great reviews.

I guess that was my point. Who would write it?

F*** Paramount.

Copyright law out of control if they win this one.

I read about 15 years or so ago something interesting about this particular case. When Mario Puzo negotiated with the the studio for the screenplay, he agreed to a certain percentage of the net profits (and not the gross). Well, fast forward. The Godfather movies are a smash, setting boxoffice records at the time. But, the studio (if it was originally Paramount, fine. I can't remember) claimed the movies (Godfather I & II) made net losses. Therefore, Puzo got next to nothing. The moral of the story was to point out the difference between "net" and "gross".

This may be an attempt by the estate to get something out of the Godfather franchise.

That trash they call Godfather III was obviously a project where corners were cut to squeeze a buck.

I respect your opinion and it was nowhere near I and II, but trash? I'm glad there was a third one. Don't care for a fourth. Like I said earlier, I just can't imagine a story that would "add" to the saga.

Without Mario involved anyway.

Everyone involved that didn't get killed in the movie, or has died in real life, are too old for any type of "prequel", and to replace them with other actors? Let it go.

IMO.

Well are they talking about a movie? I thought they were just talking about writing a new book. The only way it gets a movie is if the book is good.
