The Cardinal go into Tucson and win playing their #2 QB and #4 RB. That triples Stanford's win total from last season. Yeah, all the Cal guys who were talking about what a terrible hire that was really know their stuff.

It looks as if this guy can bring Stanford into a respectable program. I really gained something from him after he backed up his talk against SC 2 weeks back

If they had been able to win a tight loss to TCU, they'd be in a position to make a run at getting bowl eligible.

Jim Harbaugh might have Stanford on the fast track to .500 football.

Which is really a big accomplishment for Stanford.

I love how the anti-Harbaught talk has gone from "he can't coach, its too hard to win there because of academics, and he's a drunk" to "he will never be any better than average." What will Cal fans be saying after Stanford beats the Bears this year?

If Stanford beats Cal, Harbaugh should be National Coach Of The Year.

agreed. if they win another game he should be coach of the year. they have zero talent. arizona stinks of course, but obviously harbaugh is a good coach. lots of crow to be eating today for me. i can't imagine they would beat cal, but we lost to ucla so i guess we can lose to anyone now.

They way they're playing, I'd be surprised if the Cardinal doesn't get at least one win out of the Washington schools and Notre Dame.

Not really on Harbaugh. You had a healthy skepticism about a guy making that big a leap. Those of us who have followed Harbaugh for years had the jump on everyone else on that one.

he wont stay at stanford very long. they never pay up for a coach. they think it's undignified or something. too bad, he'd be good for the rivalry.

Would Harbaugh be a good fit at a place like UT?

They were paying Mike Montgomery a hefty salary by the end of his tenure.

Harbaugh coached at U. of San Diego, with bad football facilities (it is a very nice campus) and zero scholarships, competing against schools with 40-60 scholarships in D I-AA. It costs about $35,000 year to go there, so his actual choice of prospects has to be very, very slim. He won 10 games last year, only to lose their final game to UC-Davis after the team was robbed a spot in the I-AA playoffs. It doesn't take a genius to figure out this man can coach some football.

true, but that is the exception rather than the rule. he's currently making less than some offensive coordinators. i also think he's going to realize that the administration isn't going to let him recruit the kid of players he needs to be a power in the pac-10. it's easier with basketball because you have a lot less players, but even then montgomery was saying that he was having problems finding players at the end of his time there. i'd be very surprised if harbaugh is there longterm. maybe if they start drawing over 20k a game they will realize the value he brings.

i didn't know whether he was a good coach or not, but i just believed the stanford situation was unfixable short term because of the lack of talent and depth on the team. and the fact they can't recruit JC players. one of my client's kids played for him at san diego and hates his guts too. :)
