Talent or Coaching

This game was a defensive failure. We lack great speed but speed can be compensated for by technique and scheme. We have a talent issue at some key spots but the DC has been horrid to this point.

Nope. Not when the differential in speed is this great. No scheme would have helped today and technique is only effective if you get to the point of attack early enough. Recruiting is the only way we will be able to compete in these games.

Dooley had a lot of talent issues, and I'm not in any form or fashion saying bring him back. But, honestly, to this point, he has done just as much on the field. CBJ has dealt with a lot of things off the field. The APR. The alumni. Early recruiting. The culture, etc. He gets bonus points for that. But as far as being a guru? No, He isn't. Neither are any of his staff. This guy is blue collar, and we are just going to hope for the best and that he will be able to implement his plan in three years.

All that said, today exposed problems with the fundamentals of this staff. Yes, there are talent problems. But that debacle was not simply a differential in talent.

Coaching. When you throw the ball only 7 times all game and run it down our throats and the coaching staff does nothing to challenge that. How could it not be coaching? I like CBJ, but the assistants are stinking it up.
