More Phillips and Dubar playing time?

Cade is going to get more time this year. We are going to have to him. I think he will step up, too.

After watching him last night, I think Dubar is going to really give us some good minutes off the bench. I think the only question with him is can he play at the defensive level we have been accustomed to seeing?

With Okpara somewhat struggling and no Estrella, I’m wondering if Phillips gets more minutes and maybe even Dubar if we go smaller.
Okpara has 3 consecutive games he's not played well... Phillips is athletic for player his size hope they both can contribute going forward Vols have injuries that has hurt our depth

FO had 8 pts, 7 rebs, and 1 blk against Syracuse. I'll take that every game from him. I'll give you the last 2 games have been pure garbage, though.

I am waiting for the lights to come on for Okpara.

I have got the feeling he is struggling with the change and some old bad habits. Barnes knows this and is trying to turn on the lights but Okpara evidently needs more time to adjust to the Coaching and environment change.

He is still in the learning mode it appears. Too many authority dunks and has not shown the big man mentality defensively against competition. Too Soft.

Needs a lesson from Fulkerson on toughness.

Okpara looked okay at the beginning of the second half. He only played nine minutes. His biggest problem is he fouls too much, without a doubt his biggest issue.

Philips has been a real surprise to this old poster. Guess the staff knows what they're doing with evals. Makes me feel a lot better about Dubar and Boswell.
Both of those other two gave us some quality minutes last night too. I wasn’t very confident in Boswell before, but he’s done a really good job of knowing his role and playing within himself lately.

Estrella’s injury has also been a setback for Okpara. Felix would have been scrimmaging against Estrella in practice and the more you’re challenged the better you’ll become as a player.

Cade is a different type of player than Estrella for Okpara to practice against.

For those that are talking **** about Felix, look at how happy he was when celebrating the win with his teammates in the locker room.

Honest discussion of a player’s performance isn’t “talking ****” IMO

I think Felix will be fine but Phillips is already playing more due to Estrella being lost for the year, and Dubar is still working his way back into the mix. He'll get there. He missed a chunk of time and then a concussion set him back even more. The rest of these guys are really used to playing with each other. He's still finding his way in that regard but will get there. It's just a matter of getting minutes. Felix has to be more dependable offensively and play smarter.

I agree. It seems he gets knocked off his spot way too often. Once that happens it’s simply hard to recover into any advantageous position to be effective IMO. Toughness and physicality seem to be his needed improvement areas. If he can’t…Rick will prob find him a place on the bench because the SEC will be murders row this year.

Isn't Okpara still playing a bit nicked up? Maybe in these last 3 OOC games we can rest him and others up and get Phillips, Dubar and even Boswell some quality time against lesser opponents.
