Rivals grade and star rankings

vs

247 composite and star rankings

Is there a more respected/referenced/reliable between the two?

Reason I'm asking - I'm considering adding one of them to the stickied 2019 Commitment Thread, and organizing our commitments by rankings. Curious which one would be better to use.

Use the D4H rankings. Only one I trust.

I used TonyBologna until D4H bought him out. Now I wait for Breakerboy to evaluate players. Only 4 and 5 🦁 recruits are acceptable.

ESPN has surprisingly had the best rankings the past couple years. 247 is a close second though. Rivals is 🚮

None of them do an exceptional job of recognizing more future stars than they miss. For every 5* that becomes good there's a Sutton, Dan Williams, et al.

Of the ones that get 4/5*... many aren't as good as expected. A 50% accuracy would be pretty good.

So this begs the question... are programs successful because they get 5* recruits or do recruits get 5* because they're recruited by successful programs?

Honestly, this is one way Pruitt seems to have somewhat of a clue. One of the first things he said that really stuck with me was that UT had to recruit the same guys the top end programs were recruiting. He didn't say anything about rankings. Jones was concerned if not obsessed with recruiting rankings.

Logically, I got to kind of think the composite is most accurate. But it seems like I did see something a while back that said ESPN's ranking was probably more accurate because it was composed by actual NFL scouts instead of writers/reporters.

It would be interesting to see how each of these rankings compare according to criteria like college performance, NFL draft, etc.

Attach an excel spreadsheet showing all the rankings: Rivals, 247, 247 composite, and ESPN.

Of course, should have rankings when offered, rankings when committed, and final rankings. That way you can see how many 3* offers end up 4* or 5* recruits at the end of the cycle. Might shut a bunch of naysayers up...but probably not. Not in the blood of all the LOTM's.

Pruitt's rankings > all sites

So much going on with politics, fat guys who've never played doing the evals, handlers getting bs "offers" listed, etc that it's hard to tell some of the time what's real. Best way to view rankings is if a kid has at least one site giving him a 4 star ranking...he's a 4 star recruit. JMO

Yeah but go look at the where most sites rank the classes of these schools and then look at where these schools finish on the field and there’s a pretty strong correlation. Individual evaluations may differ but as a class, these recruiting services get it right more times than not.

Offer list. And I find it interesting that Pruitt seems to find offer some kids early only to see others follow suit.

ESPN is usually the worst.
