Every game last year, some folks rattled off stats to justify their RANTS about the defense and Coach Banks.

Every year, the defense has improved dramatically, but the screams about how bad it is gets louder. Though I think it's a worthless stat, but it's what everybody used in their argument about how bad our defense sucks.......we finished 90th in total D last year and this year we're at #27 after 4 games. For context, Georgia, after 4 games, is #17 in total D and #10 in scoring D.

We're bottom half on offense on 3rd down and almost dead last in 4th down. Is this a coach problem or kid problm?

Few stats 4 games in:
Defense:
*total D #27
*scoring D #29
*rush D #42
*3rd down #47
*4th down #15
*pass eff D #52

Offense:
*Total offense #24
*Scoring O #37
*Pass efficiency E #66
*3rd down #72
*4th down #114
*rushing O #8

We aren’t as good as the stats would indicate right now. But we are very much improved. I don’t think most of the negative comments aimed at the Defense are justified right now. The only criticism I can see as justified revolves around a few of the same players always being out there and not performing well. You all know which one specifically I’m talking about. Other than that the Defense seems to be taking a step forward this year.

My only complaint this year revolves around playing Milton and not even trying to get Nico any meaningful reps.

You do realize three out of our four games were against mighty UVA, APSU, and UTSA? Our defense looked like a-s against the one SEC team we have played.

What worries me is that we've not played against any run or pass unit this year that was any good except for Florduh's run game and we saw what they did to us. USC can pass the ball and I'm seriously worried about that. I think we'll have to score 28+ points to win.

Does anybody have the # of times an offense has converted on 3rd and long? That is what allowed FL to sustain the 2 long drives in the 1st half. If we want to win the big games we have to get off the field on those downs and distance. Hopefully the D will dial up the pressure on Rattler.

If we're not as good as the stats say, then you agree with Coach Banks when he says stats don't tell the whole story? Do you believe Georgia is as good as the stats they are on on defense? They are, of course, an established program with the best of the best talent.

I think it's more than fair to criticize, but VN goes beyond criticizing Coach Banks and Coach Martinez when the metrics used to judge them clearly says that the defense has improved dramatically, not a little or some, each year........there has been dramatic improvements.

I haven’t really heard his specific comments. I said we aren’t as good as the stats say because the best offense we played through four games is ranked number 55 in the NCAA (Florida). The second best team we played is number 95.

So while I believe the defense has improved this year the quality of opposition has been really bad. If you take the stats out of it, I’m saying o think we’ve improved just based on the eye test. I think are linebacking unit is worlds better than it was a couple of years ago. And I also believe the pass rush has progressively gotten better each year under Garner.

The secondary is where you’d like to see improvement. And I don’t know that we have really improved there even though it’s been a focal point in recruiting and the portal. I don’t really know why Hadden never sees his job challenged. He doesn’t play with good technique and is lost so much of the time.

Hard to convert third and long when you have 2 seconds or less to throw the ball

Ouch
3rd down efficiency has to get better on both sides. If we can improve there it is the main key. Keeping drives alive on O, and the D making more 3rd down stops is the big step we need to make. If we can improve by half on both we win this week. GBO
