Just wanted to say that Golden, despite shooting horrifically again, played well. He was disruptive on defense, he got the ball up the floor and kept the offense flowing. Did a quick +/- and got: Golden +15, Goins -7.

Also, Pearl always wants a scapegoat, but if he makes Scotty it, and does the doghouse routine on him (as he definitely did in the Arkansas game -- probably because of the Kentucky game), we might as well not show up tonight.

I have been a Tennesseean all my life, my family goes back to the early 1700'. I would like to see Tennessee abandon all sports period state wide. After even being a sports nut for all of my life I have came to realize that sports are good for anything. Nothing. People starving, no money for familys to survive or even stay togather. We pay coaches, athletic directors, a referee, we pay a referee. Something is wrong with our society!

I don't disagree with you at all; but I'm really not sure why my comments about Golden's performance prompted this response when there are much more deserving threads around.

I agree with your burden, but UT getting rid of sports wouldn't rid the world of it's ills. The $ in sports is rediculous, the system nEeds fixed. IF UT didn't have sports, it isn't like the millions would go to Haiti. Also, sports can be a means for good as well. Warrick Dunn has put roofs over many heads because of football. Also, because of sports, many go to college and earn degrees who otherwise could not. As a result, many or agents for social good as well. Many cases like this. Sports can be an outreach as well. I am a pastor, and I love sports, but it is not my first priority. It is however a great leisure activity that I enjoy. I just don't see how getting rid of sports would rid the world of ills. The core issue in what you stated is more about people being ignorant about the poverty in the world. If you really want to be disgusted, watch the Oscars and the rest of Hollywood that fawns over what dress an actress is wearing and living in abundant wealth largely oblivious to a world outside of themselves.

If you get rid of sports, something else will fill that void. Something even more frustrating, depressing, and boring.

I hate it when people say that sports aren't important in the grand scheme things, and we should instead focus on the "more important," real world, depressing things in life...and absolutely nothing else, apparently.
