17-11 (6-6)

Home: 10-1
Away: 4-9

RPI: 55

SOS: 81

Versus RPI 1-100: 1-7

Versus RPI 200+: 11-1

Offense: 8.5 Runs/Game

Defense: 5.6 Runs/Game

Margin: +2.9

Common opponents: Lost 10-5 to UK, Swept Tennessee Tech

Team BA: .321

Team ERA: 4.57

Team Fld%: .968

This is a very dangerous game for the Vols on a lot of fronts. AHC will get the start, but because the game is on Wednesday he won't be able to go very long as his role is to expand on the weekends. That means Freeman, Vasquez etc...

By contrast MS is starting their Sunday guy, Luke Humphreys, 4.05 ERA, 4-2...he has given up the most walks on his team (23) vs. 27 K in 33.1 IP. He's also the team leader in HBP with 4...opponents bat .216 against him.

They don't have a great bull pen, a lot like us in that regard, but Tyler Keele (2.03 ERA) has 3 saves in 11 appearances and Cable Wright has 3 wins in 15 appearances, he could be formidable.

They are like us on offense as well, they have the ability to put up a lot of runs, they have 34 homers on the season...leave a pitch up against these guys will make for a long night.

Summary

They actually have a better RPI than we do so not a lot to worry about there...it's more of a confidence thing, I don't want to go into the series with a midweek loss hanging around.

No free passes.

I expect us to win almost every single game that doesn't really count for much. When we get to the SEC games...phllllbbbb. We're good for one out of three in most series. Another disappointing year.

this is what I don't get about the RPI, they've played 3 teams in the top 25 and have lost all 3, NC State, Louisville and Kentucky. After looking at their schedule I'm not as impressed as I thought I was. Sure, they have a decent club and on any given day can beat anyone however I think we would beat these guys 7 out of 10 times if not 8. Just my $.02.

Regardless of the rpi Morehead is nowhere the same caliber as we are. This is a game we should and must win. Play this game 10 times and we should win 9 of them

That's what Vandy fans said after they lost to MTSU a couple of weeks ago.

That's what UK fans must have been saying coming off a weekend of taking a series from the #1 team in the country and losing to Northern Kentucky.

That's what UGA fans thought about losing to Mercer and Kennesaw St...

And even if things are even, I'm not sure we beat anyone 9 out of 10 times with this pitching.

Sorry.

:)

Mtsu is in a top 4 conference and has a number of very quality wins

Northern Kentucky is a loss that is inexcusable

Morehead is in the ovc a bottom feeder

Mercer is a legit program and KSU went to a super regional just 2 years ago

Very different type programs you bring up

I brought up losses by SEC teams in the midweeks. I just was going down the list and got bored and stopped.

The only quality win I see on their schedule is the Vandy win. They are 2-7 in their conference and Vandy is the #3 team in the country, not one pitcher on MTSU's staff would start for Vandy.

And I bet VU fans didn't even blink over it, because they understand what Corbin is doing. They know it's a big game for MTSU, that they are going to run their weekend guys out there, bring the closer on early and that Corbin is gonna run the young guys out there and take their lumps.

We should win, but Morehead was in the NCAA tournament last year.

Middle has 5 top 25 wins in terms of rpi

Vandy which you mentioned
South Alabama#10 twice (2)
FAU #21
Rice #17

But the main point is yes midweek surprises happen but an ovc team shouldn't have success over an SEC more than 10% of the time

And what I'm saying based on this year's Tennessee team, knowing what we know, knowing we are sending AHC out there and that good or bad it will be a short stint and the merry go round of relievers will likely start around the third inning...I wouldn't be surprised, disappointed, not surprised...it's a bad match up. That's all.

I'm optimistic, sure and obviously hope you are right. I'd absolutely be freaking out happy if the likes of AHC, Freeman, Vasquez could go out there and keep the mistakes to a minimum.Hell I'd be happy if only one of them hits somebody at this point. :)

Since I brought up south Alabama their coach due a big job

That's one to follow

Certainly they have played a good schedule and undefeated in their conference...

Here's a name I haven't heard tossed around yet...What about Slim?

Yep it interesting to consider. Honestly I prefer that over what we have now

Back to the south al guy. He has real success in the SEC on his resume. He will be an sec coach soon IMO

Yeah I'll have to put in some time on him. I was trying to think about a guy that has lots of SEC experience or ACC experience that understands the kind of talent you have to get to be able to be successful and that is realistically attainable.

Should that day come, the first post will be "Back up a brinks truck to Tim Corbin." I can't tell you how much I'm dreading that.

Calvi should be on the short list. Corbin won't be but Jewitt will be

My first thought of going after Burke was to lure him here with the possibility of taking over if needed, then when Slim was hired I thought the same thing.

No way in hell Corbin leaves Vanderbilt and all the money they can throw at guys.....

IMHO we'd more than likely be in the same situation now no matter who was hired after Raleigh. Instead of fighting for the 11th or 12th spot we might be fighting for 10th at best.

In full disclosure once again, I want CDS to work and I'd be fine with a short extension. He brings a lot to the table.

EDIT: I really enjoy the bantering between Bruin and 66......

If Burke wants to coach he sure would make it easier on UT's Administration if he'd go be an assistant somewhere, I'm sure there are all kinds of places that would want him. I'm not knocking him and he might be able to do a great job there's just a lot of questions that could be answered by just a year or two of coaching, recruiting, and resume/relationship building etc...

He has a relationship with the Louisville program, a year or two there would be huge in making people feel more comfortable.
