Are there any morning sports talk programs other than the mickey dearstone junk on 990? between say 8 and 9 am?

i just cant listen to dearstone anymore. he needs to go back to just being the station manager and lady vols annoucing.

Not sure of any, I feel your pain though. I stopped listening recently. I never felt there was any point in listening. Mickey would do the station well to put Dave Nathan in the 6-9 slot and pull himself from the spot he placed himself in to.

The only area Mickey has any expertise is Lady Vols basketball/softball and that's fine for some updates, but as far as other sports go, he just blabbers on and on about unrelated issues. I don't think he puts in appropriate time preparing because he never knows more than the News Sentinel says (if that) Listen to him some time. His depth of knowledge is very low. He too often uses his personal experience from the past (which isn't saying much) in responding to things he hasn't fuilly researched.

i totally agree. MD is the worst. he just blabbers and cackles through the majority of the show. i kind of feel sorry for jeff jacoby. i guess i will stop listening as well.

don't know where that is, assume in tn somewhere near knoxville, but there's a good morning show on here in Charlotte...the Morning Sports Page...entertaining, good characters on the air and a reasonbly good guest list most of the time....you can listen on line at WFNZ.com...you can also get Primetime with the Packman on that site from 3-7 pm too...also a good show, really for the callers..

the only drawback to both, is that they do focus on the ACC...but if you listen, you'll find out that there's a large SEC contention that listens and calls in as well.....it's great during football season.

The zone out of Nashville is pretty good. Frank Wycheck is on there. There is a lot of Titans talk obviously and Tennessee and SEC as well. It is not a serious sports talk show, but may be what you are looking for. You can listen on the web

I have a solution!! Mickey Dearstone needs to get "RACKED." If someone will RACK him good then maybe he will go away. I have listened to him several times myself and he is awful. Let's come together as Vol fans and RACK him off the air.

MD sucks, face it. If he was half as good as he thinks he is then the show would be worth listening to.

I don't mind Jacoby.

I dont know why it struck such a nerve with me. I guess it was last week when Jeff Jacoby said "Todd Helton had a good game.." And Mickey went on for like 5 mintues about "Who cares about Helton? People around here want to hear all the sports." (which we do) My immediate thought was. You know what.. I don't like baseball much but I REALLY do want to hear when Helton has a big game. If the Rockies are ever in contention, I'll follow them to the end. I was a Junior at Oak RIdge when he was a senior at Central. He's a good guy from all accounts and our nemesis at Oak Ridge while he was there. I'm not sure why, but that comment just got to me.

A lot of people in the city of Knoxville are really proud of Todd Helton. It's cool if people don't like him, but to say "Who cares?" That's just a radio stunt to get people revved up. He's done that one too many times for my liking. I'm not playing internet flamer "I quit!" I just thought I'd chime in on a thread in agreement.

I really enjoy Dave Nathan's hour. Dave and Jeff would be a good show imo.

He's horrible. He won't let anyone get a word in edgewise and he always steers the conversation to what HE wants to talk about. I remember during the basketball season when Bruce Pearl and the men's team were playing beyond anyone's expectations. Any conversation about them and he would cut it short and start talking about the women's program.

Funny that someone brings this up. I sent an email to the show yesterday morning declaring my disguest with MD and JJ. I sent it to Jon Knowles and he CC'd it to MD. Almost as soon as the show was over MD sent me and email back beating his chest and saying that he did not put himslef in that slot that he was chosen for it . I suggested that he try to put Dave Nathan on more and cut his show by an hour. No response to that. Jacoby's response was much more civil as expected. I agree that Dave Nathan has the best morning show in Knoxville. For now, I listen to Mike and Mike on Sirius. Good luck trying to get rid of Dearstone. I suggest that we all email the station daily and complain to the station manager. M :gun: ake a Dave Nathan push around here (Knoxville).

This isn't the first time this topic has been posted. Obviously the program content has drastically dropped and we can voice are opinion. Unfortunately, MD is the program director and he does hold some power. I just sent an e-mail to Knowles and requested he forward it to the right people. Who knows if anything will happen, but it doesn't hurt to try!
