Derek Dooley. His famous "You're not going to have Tennessee to kick around anymore." is everywhere I look. Even when I'm not looking for Tennessee news, it's there. ESPN had it on the front page of their website today. ESPN.. The ones that HATE giving us publicity. Everyone is heading his word.. So expectations are beginning to be set, and if he doesn't live up to those 10 words, hell will be given. I'm posting this completely unbiased, and this is my reasoning for putting in in 'Around the NCAA'. Because this quote ISN'T just a Tennessee trend anymore.. It's a nationwide trend.

That would be a wonderful quote from a head coach at a historically awful school like Iowa State. It's sad that people think of Tennessee as a bottom feeder because of four years of a rough patch when it's been an absolute titan throughout college football history.

If Tennessee wins 7 to 9 games, nothing is made of this quote. If Tennessee misses a bowl this year, this quote is heard constantly as Dooley is shown the door. Tennessee, even in dark times, is way too proud a program to need this said.

Tennessee has enough talent to beat everyone on their schedule.. Not to mention the experience. Are their teams that are better than Tennessee on paper? Of course! Can Tennessee beat anyone? Definitely true, as well. The season just has to play itself out.. But as for your "Tennessee has been a historical titan.", this is true. Very true... But my experience with this argument has been to stop living in the past. Remember, I live in South Carolina.. The past for them is a 14 game losing streak to us from 1993-2007. So maybe they're just butthurt, but I think they're right in some ways as well. This program has went downhill. Dooley is totally justified in making that quote, in my opinion.

Could've sworn I heard this same quote last year, only then it was James Franklin that said it and he said Vandy in place of Tennessee. . .

I've pondered this for a bit. I still haven't come up with a reason that Bama should be afraid of UT. But I'll keep thinking on it and get back to you if I come up w/ something.

Maybe the games from the years 1995-2006, in which Tennessee won 10 out of 12, including 7 in a row will refresh your memory. You've won several in a row, congrats, but sh!t is cyclical in this league for most teams. Enjoy it while you're on top, but I assure you that Saban ain't gonna be there for the next 30 years coaching top 5 teams every year. Tennessee will beat Alabama again, many times in fact. In fact, one day, not too long from now I predict, UT will literally stomp the SH!T out of poor Bama.

Don't get me wrong, I don't want you out of the message board, not that my opinion matters anyway. But I actually appreciate most of what fans of the other schools bring to this board, with very few exceptions. The constant-negavols eat at me worse than you "other guys." But you're being a d!ck here.

Anyone think that perhaps Saban might try the NFL again after this season? Found this article and it points out he only stays at programs for 5 years.

Sorry, can't get link to work from my phone. Here is what it says. It's from November.

Franz Beard (site owner of 247Gators) says this....
Nick Saban is putting out feelers to leave Alabama ... Penn State, Ohio State, Texas are said to be the schools he's interested in. Allegedly there is also interest in another NFL job.
I'm not the only one hearing this. I talked to someone last night who is intimately involved in assistant coach searches who is hearing this and another site on our network says two sources at Alabama have confirmed it.
Here is the interesting denominator -- the longest Nick Saban has coached anywhere is five years. He was five years at Michigan State, five years at LSU and this is his fifth year at Alabama.
"Nick sees himself as a program builder not a program sustainer," my source told me. "After five years he gets bored and needs a new challenge."
It's just a rumor at this stage but will it grow some legs?
Of course, Saban will deny it if someone asks him the question publicly. He denied that he was leaving Michigan State, denied that he was leaving LSU and he denied that he was leaving the Miami Dolphins. We know what happened there.
But ... will he do it again? Right now it's just a rumor but it is cause for speculation.
Another poster in that thread says that on the Buckeyes 247 site, there is a premium article that says that they've heard it as well.

Tennessee has nothing to lose when we play Bama. We should play like it too. Not saying that Tennessee will beat Bama but we have nothing to lose and could be dangerous at that point in season if all things are clicking

What has UT had to lose the last couple of seasons?

PSU and OSU hired coaches since that blog was written. Guess I really need to be scared of Texas.
