Most important game for recruiting?

I just was looking at various games and thinking about recruiting impact. What game do you think will have the greatest impact on the class?

For example we beat SC by 24 and Quarles decides after that to come play with us.

We beat UCLA by 28 and are able to sew up Uko, Riley, Shirley, Powell etc.

If we beat UF it would clearly have the largest impact on recruiting, but I do not foresee that happening (remote chance IMO) so what I am wondering is what game do you predict we win and it has the biggest impact on recruiting.

Lots of recruits at UGA game? etc.

I think for the reasons I stated above that the UCLA game could be the biggest. If we lose to UGA, Alabama and Florida but beat UCLA by a good bit (which I think we do this year at home) it will have a very positive impact on our national profile. We will be seen as a program on the way back.

Beating Memphis, Ohio and WKU like drums will have no impact on our recruiting other than true freshman playing and doing nice things. The UGA game will be important and I think probably second biggest, because I see us being able to beat them, and if we do, lots of recruits will think that Kiffin is just a class or two away from Florida level dominance (whether that is true or not).

I look forward to your takes.

Beating UCLA won't do anything for us if we blow the rest of the games.

Really, if we win 7-8 games, that should get enough. It doesn't even really matter who they are unless its a major upset over UF

I would tend to agree with the UCLA game. Being so early in the year and it being our first true test, it will show the nation what we have to offer. Surviving UF, losing by 14 or less, and beating UGA will make us most likely 5-1 heading into the Bama game. That looks mighty good after only winning 5 games all last year.

We must protect our momentum. Winning is the only way. Proving things are different like the coaches tell the recruits must happen now on the field. Otherwise, we may get raided on signing day. Therefore, we all need to pray for Crompton to develop right now to protect our future !:good!:

In the order of significance, i am going to go with:

1). UCLA win (the margin is not as important for me as the atmosphere and a fired
up Neyland Stadium. i just wish it was a night game).

2). Georgia win (Actually a tough, hard fought, team comes together to pull it out might
be more endearing at this point)

3). Florida (play 60 mins of tough smashmouth football.. Even if it is a loss, recruiting
can be helped).

4). Auburn win (Hopefully this is a nice gauge of where the offense has elevated to
with a direct comparison to last year's game. And CLK uses it nicely).

5) ALL UT FANS ATTENDING THE GAMES (HOME OR AWAY). I know we have the 'right'
to voice our opinion via cheers or boos (we boo the gators when they come on the
field and i like it) But while this is my #5 it potentially could be higher. We
know its not going to be a perfect season. When whoever misses/messes up, let's
stay behind them, pick them up and let them know we WANT them to succeed. A
lot has been said about what if any effect booing your own players has on recruits.
It does! A 17 year old coming 200 or 2000 miles is gonna make note of it. If we think
because of a kids recruiting status or how many stars he has, hes not just a young
person finding his way and trying to make some big decisions, just watch the "Nuke
flips for the Vols" video clip. Going to be a great player, but what a down to earth
kid. Good luck and GO VOLS.

auburn. they are attracting so many big recruits right now that if we beat them it could really be helpful. think about it. recruits are going where there is playing time and where they think they can be a part of something big that is just beginning. why not play in the sec? then the only argument is who to pick, auburn or ut?

Why would they want to play for Chezik then? Maybe they didn't see his tenure at Iowa State. :p

I agree, but you can count on some of our nit wits booing and trashing our players on this blog and others when things go bad. Which they could in this rebuilding year where we are thin in some areas.

I thinnk that the exposure of ESPN's new contact and Kiffin's off season talking, and the new staff as a whole will give UT plenty of press time this year. As long as they play hard, that exposure will be positve. I am sure the media will spin it as the cupboard was not full when this staff got here. If by chance, we get blown out by UCLA at home, a team we should not have lost to last year, they may say Kiffin bit off more than he can chew. All the new players are saying exactly what Kiffin promised them, the opprotunity. That in itself is building credibilty in the recruiting circles.

Ive asked the same question to myself but if you think about it au and ut were prominent programs that could battle for the sec and both slid down a bit. its the west vs. the east, and for some reason recruits have been reallly interested in au. but really i dont think the greatest college football coaches themselves could have done anything with iowa state.

Maybe. Kirk Ferentz has done a pretty good job at Iowa though. He even led them to an 11-1 season with an upset coming at the hands of rival Iowa State and quarterback Seneca Wallace. They ended up with another loss in their bowl game after USC slaughtered them. When Ferentz took over they were only winning a couple games a season. If Ferentz could turn Iowa around then someone should be able to turn Iowa State around. Heck, Vanderbilt got themselves a bowl bid. That tells me that anything is possible.

1-Auburn - Lot of recruits at this game and battle for some of same players.
2-UCLA - I know it's early but a lot of people will be watching to see if CLK can perform.
3-UF - I think we have a shot at winning, but it's important to make it a game.
4-UGA - Nice to take a few recruits from them.

We should be able to win those close losses from last year and pick up a few more. We don't have to win every game this year, but we have to look like we know what we're doing and keep them close to pick up key recruits. The more we win and look good, the faster we get to where we want to go. Go Vols!

Point margins aren't really that important---just need to look like a well coached team. All the above mentioned games are important, but the 1 that makes UT bowl eligible is a huge measuring stick, and an indication of progress. After that , it's the next one.:good!:

God I hope we win 8 games this year.... but I would say the odds are against it.

i'll be there for my 4 games:
UCLA
Georgia
Memphis
Vandy.

And I will NEVER, EVER boo a college student athlete wearing the orange and white.
PERIOD. coaches on the other hand.... yeah -- maybe coaches...

Why are the odds against winning 8 games? I would say they win no less than 7 and 8-9 sounds realistic. Possibly 10-3 but I am not counting on it.

Have you all thought about the idea that if all our commits signed today we would have a better class than the 2008 class coach Fulmer gave us.

Obviously they will all be important but i'd say UCLA especially, will be a chance for us to get alot of exposure out west which will help more than any other individual game anywhere else(im assuming we dont beat florida)

8 wins this season will help us land a top 5 class.

Yes, but we CANNOT be embarassed in any of our losses. FL could stand a 20 point loss, other 3 need to be single digits. I think we win 9 (must be the Kiff Koolaid) but we can't stand a 3 TD loss to FL unless we win 10, for recruiting purposes. Now that I think about it...we went 5-7 last year and this staff pulled a very good class...yeah 8 wins gets us there. Sorry for rambling, its my day off and I'm slammin some Guiness.

UCLA will be big for us, but Auburn may very well be the biggest, just because of the fact that there is a good chance (IIRC) that both Jeff Luc and Lache Seastrunk visit. I'm sure more will visit than just those two, but having those two on campus alone would be huge.

I'm pretty sure Joyner and Riley will be here for the Auburn game too. We also need to have a good showing against the Tigers to help persuade Cullen our way...
