"South Carolina's 63 points is the most by an unranked team against a Top 5 opponent in almost 100 years."

Yea to me, and maybe this is why I'm not a coach, but that warrants not getting to finish the year as a defensive coach on this staff if your name isn't Rodney Garner. Seems there isn't much left to worry about keeping them around for this season now that the playoffs are a thought of the past. Might as well get started on building a new defensive staff that can field something that looks more respectable than high school kids playing ball that arn't going to a D1 school. Our dbs are quite possibly the worst position group I've ever seen. Worse than JG was at QB under cornbread which is hard.

It's really not humanly possible for coaches to be more worthless and incompetent than our defensive staff. As others have noted: what the hell do they do in practice? Do they work on being out of position on every play and watching receivers run by them without even trying to cover them? Do they work on not tackling and giving up on the play as often as possible? There's no excuse for Heupel to not make a change tomorrow. If he doesn't, it doesn't bode well for his future here.

When a below average team like South Carolina was able to do this tonight... it looks like other teams are finding the blueprint to stop the Huepel game plan.

Waiting on the banks but huggers to show up and say it’s all about talent. Rattler had 7 tds all year, but somehow Tennessee doesn’t even have enough talent to slow him down lol. Banks and Martinez need to be fired now.

That is probably the best SCAR has played in 100 games and they won't match that for then next 100 games, if ever.

yea to me if he wants to actually show that he's building a serious program, he has to address this issue. Heads have to roll unfortunately, because you or I could have been the coaches of this defense, been paid millions, and given results just as bad as this. You're exactly right about it not boding well for the future if he doesn't make a change. At this point he HAS to. I mean our DBs just didn't get beat, they looked completely lost. McCullough played one of the worst coverage games at safety that I've ever seen. Actually not one of the worst, it was the worst. Its like he thinks that zone coverage means you sit in one spot even as a guy cross through and past that spot when there is no one else in coverage in the spot that that guy is running to. They beat us on the same play 5 or 6 times for gains of 20+ yards, and one was on a critical 3rd and 20. 3RD AND 20.....HOW IN THE ABSOLUTE HELL AS A PLAYOFF CONTENDER DO YOU GIVE UP A 3RD AND 20 IN A CRITICAL SITUATION IN THE GAME. Sorry for caps but this performance has my blood boiling. It was just pathetic.

we have set some ugly records this year on d
Tonight we were a triple threat defense, STUMBLE, FUMBLE, AND FALL. We did not stop the pass or the run. We did not pressure the qb at all and we let them set historical records against us. To top it off our db’s ran their mouths all night, they should have been to embarrassed to look them in the eye. I’m thankful for 9-2, but this defense has to be addressed immediately after the season. I will leave the correct actions to Coach Heupel (he does not need my opinion, lol). Sad tonight but thankful for a blessed football season with many great moments, and more to come. Praying Herndon is OK.

I don’t think it had to do with his offense.
At this point in the season, everybody knows the weaknesses of the team. The secondary is Tennessee’s weakness.

I knew we were going to give up a first down on that third-and-twenty. I had no doubt, and I was right, and that's inexcusable. As you noted, you or I could have done a better job coaching the defense than that. I know enough to freaking tell them if a receiver runs by you, you f'ing go with him. And you don't play ten damn yards off the LOS on third-and-short.
