I’ll be working SW of Indy near the airport. Any advice on good areas to home-search and those in particular to avoid would be appreciated.

Also, big foodie, so restaurant recommendations would be awesome.

From what I’ve seen so far, the cost of living is reasonable and I’ll still be fairly close to East TN. Looks like a good place to start a family.

If you’re a foodie, you’ll have a tough time in Indiana. However, it’s dirt cheap there. And FYI, just be aware of the winters. They suck

One of the coolest monuments I've ever visited is the WWI memorial in downtown Indy. Near the Capitol, not too far from the roundabout. I have not been there since the F1 race moved to Texas so I can't help with much else.

My sister lived in Shelbyville for a couple of years. It seemed like a good place close to Indianapolis.

I approached Indianapolis while on a long road trip. It reminded me of Atlanta a few decades earlier. Decided to exit the highway and get something to eat. Had a fine lunch at a diner. Everyone was cordial, friendly.

The whole downtown area is neat; especially from the monument through the Wholsale District to the stadiums. They've got a cool minor league ballpark.

I lived there for over 20 years. Yes, cost of living is low. For homes near airport, I'd look in the Plainfield/Avon area. Lots of newer developments in that area. Restaurants downtown are fine - not much out by the airport. If kids are in the future, avoid Indianapolis Public Schools - notoriously bad. You are probably aware already but going from upper East Tenn to Indy is like going from Heaven to ..........

In Georgia, vehicles (cars, trucks, trailers, etc) are titled property and taxes were assessed on their appraised value each year. The law was changed to all all up front tax. Pay now, or pay later, you're gonna pay. "We must fund government somehow."
