No one wants to end up in Starkville if they have options.
I don't like to diss people/things/places but good grief that is literally in the middle of nowhere. Went there for a visit and like 14 of the top 15 things to do withing two hours were all on campus. The 15th was the house of the dude who founded the school you could tour lol

Been to Mississippi two times in my life. First time was a college visit in 2014. There were a decent amount of people I knew considering Ole Miss, so I thought I’d give it a shot. I remember the road we took to get to Oxford was an aggregate road. Wasn’t even paved. Campus was pretty underwhelming. Town was mediocre. Knoxville blew it away on all fronts.

Second time was this past year. Took I-55 all the way through Alabama and the southeastern part of Mississippi. What a disaster. Really depressing. The only place I was like, “Okay, I’d consider stopping to get gas and grab a bite to eat here” was Picayune, right on the Louisiana border.

I haven’t been to Jackson or Hattiesburg, but haven’t exactly heard a lot of great things about either. If I’m a recruit, I’d honestly want to just get the hell out of Mississippi. Of course, I recognize you have a different sentiment about a place when you grow up there, but man, I don’t know how you can visit Knoxville or really most of the other SEC towns and decide to go to Starkville or Oxford.

Oxford is decent. Scenery can be quite nice there. Food is good as well as long as you’re in the right place. You’re not missing anything in Jackson either.
