Just frustrating. I really don't think we're bad at recruiting. But something is missing when we're getting deep on some of these kids... And boom, out of nowhere they go some place else.

At the end of the day I do think we're doing a good job overall.

But we do need to stack more of these kinds of players to get past our current ceiling.

I agree,and I don't know what the heck LSU is doing but they have gotten a 5* and two 4*'s in the last week! I don't think Kelly has done near the job Josh has done since he has been here. In fact, if he does not do better than 9-4 (2024 record), I could see him on the hot seat. The success of Notre Dame after his departure may be a sign of his coaching skills or lack of.

So, what the heck is L.S.Who using to lure these recruits in? FREE CRAYFISH!

I think laying that QB to Michigan turned up the heat on the nil down there. So I think there's an 'all in' mentality right now.

This one was always gonna go down to the wire even if he committed to us (see David Sanders). The season will matter. If LSU flames out again and we are in the playoffs I could see him flipping. Also we could just throw a gigantic bag at him like Michigan did to Bryce Underwood when they stole him at the last moment from LSU. Though I would say we shouldn't do that. Keys is an awesome prospect. He looks like a future top 15 pick in the NFL draft. But he's not a generational prospect. There could be under the radar receivers in his own class better than him.

Don’t think we have a Dave Portnoy + Larry Ellison’s wife partnership out there that would even put up the NIL for something like that.

Plenty of examples of cruits being bought. That was a bad one to use.

Even if we had a billionaire like that willing to buy a recruit at any cost I clearly said we shouldn't do it. So I don't know why you latched onto a proposal I rejected? I like Tristan Keys but he's not worth getting into an irrational bidding war over. If he's passing on a similar deal to be at LSU then let him go there and use the funds to get other players. I'm sure there are other receivers out there who are currently under the radar that will be as good as him or even better.

We do have King which a huge get.
But Keys is a true 5 star. We need to try to the very end to turn him

If it’s a nil thing and we loss out to LSU of all schools, yikes. Pretty sure we should be well above them on the NIL front, has to be production/coaching imo. And that would be valid. Pope has been hot garbage the past two seasons. With all that said, flip him. Gotta land this kid

Y'all are way too hard on Pope.

Thornton, Stayley, Matthews, Brazzell, King for 2026 are all studs.

Yes he's missed out on many highly rated guys, but all of these guys didn't ended signing up with the same school 😑.

What about every other school that missed on this same guys?? They didn't all sign with the same school so, at best that guy 1 guy and also missed on the same guys as Pope

Yes, but Pope still coached him up.

People are being way too critical of him. Yeah Tyreek King is a Knoxville boy, but how many times has that backfired on Tennessee?
But he’s all Vol and he’s one of the most explosive players in 2026 overall, and Pope snagged him.

Yeah he missed on Keys (for right now), but so did Ohio State, Clemson, Alabama, Texas, and Alabama. So do they suck now??

Too hard on Pope??

Outside of Hyatt’s one year with him (and even Hyatt said he dedicated himself to working on getting better, so I’m not sure how much that was pope) what has Pope done for our wrs? We have regressed every year at the position. FWIW I’m not saying he needs to be fired now but this is the year to show progress or get out.
