'26 MS WR Tristen Keys

I'm fine with this if MM stays and we can add a legit playmaker in the portal. I think the young guys learning on the job will serve us well moving forward. WR is one of the easiest to make an impact as young players, especially as early enrollees who can go thru spring practice.
I agree. We should just throw them into the fire next year.

From Rivals:

A large group of top programs will soon drop for the emerging wideout, and Texas A&M, Tennessee, Auburn, Alabama and USC are among the locks to make the next cut. In the meantime, the junior has built a relationship with several classes of 2025 and 2026 quarterbacks trying to get him on board like Deuce Knight (Auburn), Brady Hart (Texas A&M) and Faizon Brandon (Tennessee). Keys would like to narrow his list and potentially make a verbal commitment in the spring months.

Actually it’s not that simple

Seems to be that way. See Bryce Underwood. If you're willing to outpay the competition you can get anyone. Now will some have to pay more of a premium than others? Sure. But that's the way life goes. A short fat guy has to make a lot more money than a tall fit guy to attract the same caliber woman.

It’s not that way for *every* highly rated guy tho. While they do command the most NIL $$, not every one picks the school that offers the most.

I've never said they were simply picking the school that offered more. Did you not get the short fat guy analogy? A pretty girl won't date an unattractive guy simply because he makes a few more dollars per year than an attractive guy. But if he makes a million dollars more per year she might be consider it. That's what happened with Bryce Underwood. He didn't flip to Michigan at the last moment cause they simply were offering more money than LSU. He flipped cause they were offering SIGNIFICANTLY more.

So it's not just about offering more. It's about if you offer significantly more then you'll land the guy. Because at a certain point the difference in money becomes too much to ignore. So we can get any guy we want if we’re willing to pay the premium required to land said player.

Well all we need to do that is have Dave Portnoy and Larry Ellison’s wife to become Vol fans bc that’s how they did it with an influx of $$.

+ Tennessee and Texas A&M are battling for the No. 1 spot on Tristen Keys‘ list. The five-star wide receiver out of Hattiesburg(Miss.) has lived up to the hype this week and many schools will be fighting for his commitment in the coming months. The Vols may have a light edge.

NAME YOU SHOULD PROBABLY KNOW: 2026 5-STAR WR TRISTEN KEYS

Jeremiah Smith, Ryan Williams and Cam Coleman have reset expectations for freshmen wide receivers. Dakorian Moore, Vernell Brown III and others could certainly burst onto the scene this fall, but the 2025 cycle might not have a true Day 1, outside game-wrecker. That's why you need to know the name Tristen Keys. Our lone five-star wide receiver right now in the 2026 cycle, Keys looked the part all week in Orlando while squaring off with much older defensive backs. He's a high-hipped, three-level separator with the sap to move the chains in a variety of different ways. Tennessee and Texas A&M are in the lead pack for Keys.

Must do everything we can financially on this one IMO. Desperately need a superstar on the perimeter for Brandon

What are our chances realistically to land Keys?

Really good. AP said we are the leader going into 2025 as have others. Wish a mod would move or delete all the other comments regarding CJH coaching style, our willingness to play freshmen, how much money we will or won't spend etc to either the RF football or RF portal threads. People have been asked to take those discussions there rather than in player specific threads (especially for 5* super important WR threads) and apparently refuse to listen to good advice. This isnt the place to be questioning our staff etc. There's a dozen threads where it is "appropriate" this just isn't one of them. FWIW, this staff has done a great job in every aspect at UT from coaching to recruiting and the portal IMO. I am very thankful for this staff like most people are.
