Congrats on winning the basketball C-USA Championship and NCAA invitation men and women. Not much support unfortunately but awesome coaches and players!

Kermit Davis is a pretty pathetic coach. He choked seemingly every other year in the Sun Belt tournament despite having the best talent more times than not. 14 years and 2 bids at Middle does not a great coach make.

Lol. He is what he is. A decent Sun Belt/C-USA level coach. Nothing more, nothing less.

I'm not the one who called him an awesome coach. Decent would be pushing it as well.

Not really. Kermit's .619 win percentage at MTSU puts him near the top for active coaches/recently active coaches in both the Sun Belt and C-USA. Most coaches in those conferences are terrible.

If he was good or great, he would have received some bigger job offers by now, but he's been good enough to last at MTSU for 14 seasons while posting only a single losing record in both overall W/Ls and conference play.

He's also 122-48 over the past 5 seasons. If anything, he's moving steadily towards "good".

Yes, they're mediocre by Bill Self standards but Kermit has had some of the best talent in those two leagues and it's not shown up when it matters. The record over the last 5 years is proof of the talent yet he has minimal postseason results to show for it.

He's survived 14 yrs cause Middle is content with the results. Darrin Horn's tenure at WKU was light years better than Kermit's from a record standpoint yet he was a South Alabama upset, in the Sun Belt tournament, away from being run out of BG. In his 5 year career he hada winning percentage of 70% and 1 NCAAT appearance. Had it not been for the automatic bid in 2008 he was gone.

Meanwhile, Shady Ray had 2 NCAAT appearances in his first 4 seasons at WKU despite his barely .500 record. Now he's gone too, thank God.

Long point is, Kermit should have more than 2 tourney appearances on his resume. His talent over the years dictates as much.

Exactly. WKU and MTSU basketball aren't comparable from a historical perspective. MTSU has zero history of basketball success, while WKU's resume is very respectable even from a national standpoint. Kermit is doing a decent job given MTSU's history, especially over the past 5 years. That's all I'm saying. If he was capable of recruiting good talent to the Sun Belt/C-USA and coaching it up to high levels every season, he wouldn't still be at MTSU. He's no Mike White. He's probably comparable to Johnny Jones and would have similar results if he got promoted to the big leagues.

He's right where he belongs right now--in a league where he can be fairly competitive and coaching at a school that is happy with his current results.

MTSU is going to hold onto both Davis and Rick Stockstill for as long as they want to coach because they're safe options right now. They're decidedly average coaches who field competitive teams that can challenge for their divisions/conferences most seasons. It's very easy to hire absolutely abysmal coaches in both sports when you're the AD of a Sun Belt/C-USA team, and even if you luck out and get a solid coach, chances are they'll be gone within 2-3 seasons.

Last sentence is so true. WKU hasn't kept a bball coach for more than about 5 years over the last 25 years, most have moved onto bigger. Same thing is now happening with football.

Kermit sucks so much that he just beat 2-seed Michigan State and Tom Izzo as a 17 point underdog.

Congrats to MT. I thought they got lucky when UAB got knocked out and would be a one and done, but I thought they played outstanding. Ironic they beat MSU in St. Louis where Bruce lost to MSU in the 2010 EE.

Kermit has talent don't know much clearer I can make that or how I can say it any other way. That's been my point, he should be here. He and Middle also got screwed on their seed to begin with. CUSA was supposed to be a step up from Sun Belt meanwhile the Sun Belt champ gets a 12 seed and MTSU ends up on the 15 line. This was a 10-13 seed team IMO. As someone who hates Middle, I immediately called my dad after the brackets were announced to discuss how bad they got screwed. Not only a 15 but a 15 playing the "best" 2.

Michigan St shot 30-54 from the field (55.6 %) including 11-24 from 3 point range (45.8 %) and had a 30-26 edge in total rebounds... and still lost. Normally, a huge upset like this happens when the higher seeded team plays a really sloppy game and can't get anything to fall. That wasn't the case here at all. Michigan St played very well, Middle Tenn was just better.

When they get going from 3 they can be hard to beat. It baffles me that they can be a top 5 team in the country in terms of 3pt % but shoot FT's so terribly (4th worst in the country).
