Munson to retire, effective immediately

One of the last great radio voices . . . I hate that it happened in the middle of the season, but it really needed to happen. Age and bad health have really taken their toll.

I second that. Is Jack Cristol still at Mississippi State? If not, the SEC is now inhabited by nothing but no talent trash like Mick Huber, Eli Gold, and Bob Kesling.

Munson seemed to be well respected across the country.

As for the Eli Gold comment, I think he deserves to be given a bit more respect.

He's been around the sports world for awhile. He's definitely an upgrade over some of the SEC announcers that's in the SEC right now. He's about 100x times better than Kesling has ever been thought to be.

Gold is basically Bob Kesling with a labored delivery and a worse partner.

I'm not sad he went away. The hob nailed boot thing sorta made me not a fan of his.

"Its forth and a million and the Dawgs are down by a million."

You don't get that emotion from announcers today. Munson was awesome, sad to see him go.

Whoa my! I hate Mick Huber. His voice sounds like rusty nails on a chalboard. Then again, I couldn't stand Larry Munson's voice either.

If he's your guy you love him. Otherwise, not so much. I grew up in South GA and we couldn't get the Dawgs on tv, so Larry provided the picture for us until Sunday when the Vince Dooley show came on. He got kinda whacky in his later years (Hob nail boot), but you have to love a guy who loved lived and died with his team. I don't think he'll live to see the Dawgs post season. Sad to see him and Skip Carey go!

I heard him a time or two when i was flipping through the radio stations and I never knew what was going on. He had a great voice for the job, but didn't seem overly concerned with giving many details.
