Murray State, contender or pretender?

Contender. Although, when they meet a physical team that likes to slow the game down then they will probably be in trouble.

Hard to say these mid majors are not for real after what we have seen the past several years. Watched one of their games on ESPNU earlier this season and they look for real. I wouldn't bet against them in the tourny.

Well they're up to #12 in the AP poll, #10 in the Coaches poll. They're undefeated so I have no problem with them being ranked, my only issue is with how high they may climb without having really beaten anyone good. Does a team whose best win was against Memphis crack the top 10? Top 5? And if so, how does that translate to a tournament seed? Are they a 3 seed or better? I really can't see it, although to be sure you don't want to see an undefeated team in the postseason.

I think they're a Sweet 16 squad. It's one of those cases where, as a big mid-major fan, I want to believe they're an Elite Eight or deeper threat, but they really don't have a "great" win aside from a Memphis squad that took two months to find its identity.

Love it. I got my B.S. from Murray State, before going to UT for my masters. As someone who lives close by and still follows Racer basketball avidly, I will say they are for real. Legitimate sweet 16 team at least.

4 seed in the tournament and they get dropped in the 2nd round. Not really impressed with them in the couple of games I've watched.

They deserve the 10 ranking, but they definitely aren't the 10th best team in the country.

They're a borderline Sweet 16 team. Depends on the matchup

Thats the catch 22 of this whole thing. This ranking will play against them by landing them a 5 or 6 seed, instead of flying in under the radar and pull some upsets. They have 6 juniors and 3 seniors and shoot it well, which is the recipe for success in the tourney. But as a "favorite", I don't know how far they will take it.

Depending on how the rest of their season plays out, my guess is a 3-6 seed. They'd have to encounter the right opponents to make it past the second round IMO

Being undefeated will (has) begun to weigh on them. They're better off if they lose a regular season game than if they go undefeated, then have the conference tourney pressure of remaining undefeated, then carry that into the big dance.

They're better off with a 10 seed or so going into the tournaments.

Agree. The best thing that can happen to them is lose (so the undefeated monkey is off their back) and then drop a couple more in regular season and then hammer everybody in the conference tournament. That would probably give them a morehead st type of ranking.

The only game I see them having any chance of losing that's left on the schedule would be if they get a great opponent for BracketBusters weekend, like Wichita State or someone. It'll be a home game though, so who knows.

I'm considering Murray for college. But i'll probably end up going 15 minutes away to UK for a major in some kind of history and a minor related to german somehow.

Ever thought about changing that screen name, OP, so it doesn't scream "troll" ? That screen name adds a belligerent tone to even harmless, neutral threads like this one.

Dude, go to UK. Cheering for your team is that much sweeter when you're a student
