The granddaughter of former Italian Dictator Benito Mussolini has won a second term as city councillor in Rome, reportedly bringing in more votes than any other candidate.

Rachelle Mussolini belongs to the far-right political party Brothers of Italy, which has roots in postwar neofascism and, after formerly being somewhat of a fringe party, is rising in popularity.

This year, Mussolini racked in 8,200 votes, compared to only 657 in 2016. Support for Brothers of Italy has gone up, even in the left-leaning northern part of the country.

This is a rather significant jump in votes.

Unemployment and poverty will do that. Get your popcorn ready.
The timing on this whole thing is interesting. It was almost exactly 100 years ago that we saw the rise of fascism and communism in the world. And it was in response to the previous governments decisions and how it addressed problems like the economy and a pandemic.

You'd think we never study history...

How are her fascist skills? Can she terrorize her own countrymen like her Grandfather did?

Part of what lead to the rise of Hitler, Lenin/Stalin and Mussolini was rebellion against the out of touch aristocracy. Now people are rebelling against the out of touch political aristocracy.

And the places where they took over are mostly where the aristocracy took a more authoratarian stance to defend themselves rather than opening up to allow change.
