Look, By no means does anyone know what this kid is going to do until the deed is done but in this article he does not sound to hot on the Hogs. Interesting enough he says that he would like to red shirt a year and then in his comments about the Vols he states that he is really impressed with the talent but would not like to start there as a Freshman. Read into that what you will but it seems to me that he has found a good fit a UT. But like it has been said on here before, he is enjoying the sunshine and no one will know his decision until Feb.

“I don’t want anyone to go into tears, have a breakdown, not go to work and get divorced because some kid didn’t go to their school,” he said.

As for his suitors, Mustain said that he was impressed by the talent of Tennessee and by its new offensive coordinator, David Cutcliffe, but that he did not like the prospect of playing there as a true freshman.

He wouldn't start as a freshman at UT anyway, he makes it sound like he would.

I bet the Hog players that talked to him are simaltaneously pissed off and terrified that he ran his mouth...

I've heard that one of the ND QB commitments is being pressed by PSU and is questionable. I think ND is still in the game. I still think we have a shot as well. I think Arkansas is out. After pulling out from there, I've heard that he's been trashed everywhere he goes for "chickening out" and "turning traitor". Being harrassed by your potential fan base does little to make you want to go to that school.

I think a lot of his comments are smoke and mirrors but deep down he's seeing better odds of success and notoriety in UT. Bama? Too much liability there. Not enough talent to work with. Arkansas? With people threatening to burn your house down over decommitting, what does it mean for possibly losing a game? ND? Clausen is the big one next year and with talent on board or on the way, competition is high.

At UT with a new OC, the ability for a fresh start is there. Ainge and Crompton are both starting from scratch. And Mustain redshirting makes it easier to work with as well. He's stocked with talent to work with to boot.

If he wants the job, it's there for the taking at UT. He'll have to prove he wants and deserves it but the supporting cast is better here under the favorable conditions. No other place offers that.

We are still pressing for Nick Stephens(Ole Miss commit) and Arvelle Nelson as well, so who knows how it will shake out.

The QB that is being pressed by PSU is Fraser, and he has already confirmed his committment to ND. I know Mustain has burned some bridges in ARK, but he would be best served swallowing his pride and becoming a Hog.

Why would he want to swallow his pride and play for the Hogs...What possible benefit is there to pass up TN for the Hogs?..so he can be developed into an NFL draft pick by a high school coach who has already taught him all he knows? or so he can play for a head coach and staff who m,ay not even be there a year down the road?

He wouldn't play at UT. Crompton (sp?) Will pick up right where Ainge leaves off, and this kid wants to start pronto. And maybe I think it shows a little character when one honors their promises, but that is just me...

I don't think I'd exactly call it breaking a promise...

this guy is going to be so screwed up in the head by the time he makes this decison....talk about pressure....i hope the kid does the right thing, and is happy with his decision....just don't go to Bama!!!

No kidding . . . This recruiting talk gets worse every year. I just hope the kid just goes wherever HE truly wants to go.

yep..i stopped keeping up with it this year...if the kid(s) can play, then they'll play, until then, all this recruiting stuff is non sense. college is supposed to be fun...especially if your're good enough to get a full ride as an athelete, regardless of sport...it shouldn't be this damn difficult while your still in high school....these kids are so much more grown up nowadays by the time they're 20....i'd hate it if he went to Bama and beat us all the time, but there are some good kids out there that just want to play....and if they really want to play for a team and have that chance, then good for them. I never did, and not that i ever really made it a goal, but if the opportunity had presented itself to me, i don't know that i could resist the thought of NOT running thru the T for 4 years on Saturday afternoon. Oh to be young again, with the knowledge i now have!!!!

Good Luck Kid!

I thought the same thing after the Army game. He may have just had an off day or with all of the attention and added pressure he couldnt think straight.

A.) He actually DOESNT want to play right away. He has said in recent interviews that he wants to redshirt and take a year to learn and get stronger.

B.) We are all so dependant on the "stars" and "ranking" and Mustain is the #1 QB in the country. Crompton was ONLY the #3 or soemthing like that. So, that means Mustain will beat Crompton out, so your argument is flawed. I mean I am just using the logic I see used by so many people on this website. That is correct right?

The only reason I would want the kid to come to UT is that it would piss the Hog fans off. He did not impress me at all in the Army game. Tebow was the most impressive qb of the day without a doubt. The Moody kid was the best RB and Rose is a beast on D. If he comes to UT I will welcome him and root him on. But it bothers me quite a bit that the kid does not want to play. I cant fathom that. I want a kid who wants the ball all the time. The kind of player who looks to be the man. If the coaches urge him to RS then that is one thing. But to come out in a interview and say that he wants to RS?!

Perhaps he doesn't want to play because he feels that HS coach hasn't prepped him for the big college level. This could be a high vote of confidence for Nutt's new hire.

Saying he does not want to play next year may also be a way to try and soften the blow for Arky fans since Nutt would probably want him to start as a Freshman.

I just don't get it. I think a guy would want to play and play now. I think the very competitive players are that way. It is then up to the coaches to try and put the breaks on once they get to school. He is saying he wants to sit out a full year before he even gets there. It just smells to me. How many think Peyton would have said that?

Of all the programs around the country that are there or about there, I cannot imagine the #1 or #2 QB coming out of high school would want to go to a program that is off the grid like Arkansas.

I don't care if he lives 30 feet from the main campus there, I just don't see a player of that caliber wanting to go to a program that is not on the top of the charts or at least very near the top.

I think he will end up in K-town. Just my gut feeling.
