So speculation, ok, now i understand. I thought you had some good info.
In all seriousness besides speculation, I have a buddy that lives in little rock now and he's saying on this sports radio show that his mom won't have anything to do with coaches from the program. more SPEculation is that him and NUTT were actually the ones that had it out and that's why he won't talk. He'll be wearing orange just watch.

As much as i would like to believe you , i just cant. I do hope however that he has a great career whereever he ends up. It would be a nice finish for the Vols to pick this guy up, but until he signs i still think he is going to the Hogs.

im sure this is old news too but UT is now 26 nationally in recruiting via rivals. Right above VaTech and TAMU.

With all the press he is getting you would think he was the second coming of christ. Hopefully he'll live up to his hype.

I found this on Rivals...but overall I could really care less now wheather or not he comes to UT. I think we'd be better with Jimmy Clausen.

Mike Farrell
Recruiting Analyst
While Springdale, Ark. quarterback Mitch Mustain has decided to keep his recruiting plans a bit quiet, rumors have been flying everywhere linking the nation's No. 2 signal caller to Notre Dame. Now it seems there is good news for fans of Arkansas, Tennessee and Alabama as Notre Dame is not a player in the Mustain sweepstakes. It could also be good news for Irish fans.

Despite Mustain's heavy interest in Notre Dame (towel), the Irish aren't going on him.
Sources indicate that Notre Dame will not go on Mustain for many different reasons. The 6-foot-3, 208-pounder hasn't had an offer from Weis since the head coach took a commitment from Chicago stud Demetrius Jones. Jones was the second quarterback to commit to the Irish during the summer joining Pennsylvania slinger Zach Frazer. Weis told both players he was only taking two quarterbacks and is apparently sticking to that word.

Many sources cite that Notre Dame would be the choice for Mustain if the Irish were to come back with an offer. However, that isn't going to happen. The commitment Weis made to his two quarterbacks is a strong one and while the Gatorade Player of the Year has to be tempting, it's now a race between Tennessee, Alabama and Arkansas.

So how is this good news for Irish fans? First, it shows that their new head coach has as much integrity as expected to hold such a prestigious job. Second, this news comes a day after Notre Dame's Junior Day held in South Bend, Ind. on Saturday. Not coincidentally, 2007 super recruit Jimmy Clausen was on hand for the day. The California stud is the top quarterback target for 2007 for Weis and company and it wouldn't be a stretch to think that the Irish feel good about their position with Clausen.

Many programs have been using the Mustain situation against Notre Dame in efforts to lure away Jones and Frazer. Mustain will be notified Sunday that he should look in a different direction than Notre Dame and the Irish have continued to recruit both Jones and Frazer throughout this process.

For Clausen, the Notre Dame situation looks a lot better with just two quarterbacks in the mix from the 2006 class, especially with only one (Frazer) being a true drop-back passer. Had Mustain entered the fray, it would have certainly hurt ND's chances with Clausen.

So where does Mustain look now? Arkansas is always a safe option with his former head coach Gus Malzahn in charge of the offense. After running a different offense in San Antonio, Tex. and having a poor U.S. Army All American Bowl, perhaps familiarity will win out for Houston Nutt and company.

Tennessee has to be considered the bigger threat than Alabama simply because quarterbacks coach David Cutcliffe is on board. Cutcliffe was one of the main reasons Mustain was originally interested in Notre Dame and has a great track record with quarterbacks.

However, Alabama has immediate playing time available either as a starter or backup. Brodie Croyle is gone, Marc Gullion has not worked out and John Parker Wilson has good upside but no experience. If Mustain picked Arkansas for a clear path to the starting job back in the summer, Alabama's path is even more clear.

Whichever way this shakes out it certainly looks as though the best quarterback in SEC country will be staying in the SEC.

I guess you can make me a two post wonder now. I've been checking this board out for more than a year but never decided to actually register until recently. It's a lot easier to check volnation.com and see some story headlines rather than check so many different websites, and it's always good to check the board also incase someone seems to have some good info. Vol_Freak seems pretty well connected, a booster maybe. I almost registered back when Andre Mathis was on here when he committed and, because of the doubters, had to get someone to take his picture with something (volnation.com) written on the paper. That was funny. So....I'm not some random bammer. I hang around a good bit of recruiting boards....it's a hobby I guess....and it seems like this board is getting into recruiting more, so I thought I'd register and start posting some. Believe what I say or not, but I do get as much info as I can from people who actually know/speak to the recruits and also boosters. Some of the info from boosters will be based off of what they heard a recruit telling their host or other players while on the visit. That's not always right. Derrick Williams actually told some players that he was coming to UT when he visited last year. Basically, I like to share what I'm hearing....but don't consider it a lock.........and I know I'll be fighting an uphill battle just for you guys/and gals to actually take me seriously since I'm a 'newbie' here. Anyways, this post is too long as it is, so I'll just add some thoughts on some bigtime targets.

Brent Vinson- would've already committed buy momma and coach wanted him to visit VT. He takes that visit this weekend but already has plans to announce next monday. Says his mind is made up. Unless VT does an amazing job this weekend, he's a Vol. Him and best friend/current UT bball commit Duke Crews have already got it ok'd to room together.

Aleric Mullins- Loves Dan Brooks and loved his visit to UT this past weekend. Visits to NC State and UNC are coming up, but it sounds like his mind is already made up. UT should end up with him, and there's been plenty of rumors of him having committed this past weekend. We'll see, but we're in good shape.

Ramone Johnson- Loved his UT visit. He will visit Illinois this weekend and is only considering them and UT. Like Mullins, rumors are around that he committed to UT this past weekend. We want him bad and some say we've got him. UT hasn't had the best of luck with pulling mid-west o-linemen, so I'm cautiously optimistic.

Adam Patterson- Also loved his UT visit and it is likely that we're the leader. He took a one day official to South Carolina today and seemed to like it. Also likes Dan Brooks a lot, and Brooks sat with his family through most of the Shrine Bowl. If he gets it down to two before a commit, we'll be one of them. UT is in great shape.

Nick Stephens- Will make a final decision soon. Just gave an interview tonight DURING an in-home visit from an Ole Miss assistant. Word is that he's decided to come to UT, but he's still got some talking to do with his parents to be sure.

Perry Riley- He's an LSU commit, but that may be very shaky. He visited this past weekend and stayed over in Knoxville for today because his teammate, Kelvin Sheppard/another LSU commit, came up for an unofficial. Sheppard visited officially back in November. LSU wants Riley as a linebacker, UT wants him as a safety.....his preference, safety. Still haven't got any info back on him after his visit. Sounds good for both Riley and Sheppard if Shep came up for an unofficial to look things over again with Riley.

Thad Gibson- He's down to OSU and UT. Haven't heard how his OSU visit went, but I'm guessing it might not be good news for UT. OSU has got two four star linebackers in the past week or so, and look to be adding Larry Grant after he failed the math class he needed to transfer to an SEC school. With OSU taking so many other linebackers, Gibson may decide the situation is better at UT. He also has family in Chattanooga.

Brandon Minor- He'll decide between Mich and UT on friday. He really like UT, but he may like Mich more according to those closer to the situation. His brother went with him to UT on his official, and came away a UT fan. He's been pushing for UT, but Minor seems to like Mich a whole lot. If he commits to UT this friday, consider it a pleasant surprise.

That's all. Somebody may have already mentioned it, but Cut started turning the discipline around recently. Told Ainge to lose the earrings and two recievers who showed up five minutes late to a meeting....were told to get out and be on time from now on if they want to play. Also told o-linemen who were over a certain weight to lose 20 pounds.....some who were heavier were told to lose more. I think he's wanting the linemen to play right around 300 pounds.

Thanks, glad to be here. This is one of the few boards I've seen that isn't cluttered with people who live to flame. Oh, I just realized I also forgot to mention someone.

Duke Calhoun- Visited this past weekend and seemed to enjoy it. Unfortunately, it seems like we only did enough to pull even with Ole Miss. Calhoun is a burner, listed at only 4.4 but has been recorded consistently at 4.3.....and his film shows it. I think we really need to pull this kid. He seemed to be more comfortable with the players at Ole Miss, but liked the opportunity and history of reciever success at UT. His family likes Tennessee, but I don't think they're pushing him since Ole Miss is actually closer to home. It's a toss up between UT and Ole Miss. If we lose him to Ole Miss, I think I might be sick.

I'm a little out of it right now, so please excuse any spelling or typing errors in my last post and this one.

I dont think we lose Duke Calhoun to Ole Miss.... I personally think that we will get all that you mentioned besides Nick Stephens, Perry Riley, Thad Gibson, and Minor. but still that is a top 10 class with everyone we get!!

I agree on Riley, Gibson, and Minor. I'm on the fence with Stephens. I've been hearing good things about Stephens, but he's been an Ole Miss commit for so long....it's going to be a tough pull. OM also hasn't been helping there cause with Stephens though because they hadn't called him in over two weeks, and tonight was about the first talk he's had with anyone from OM in weeks. OM may be more concerned with getting Schaeffer and un-intentionally neglecting Stephens in the process. I think Stephens likes UT better as a school and the coaches better.....but his opportunity at Ole Miss is better because he could possibly start for them next season. People who should know are saying that Stephens wants to go to UT now, but that may just be his excitement talking from the official visit...and that 'high' usually dies down after about a week or so.

Another note, Cody Pope is a Vol. He'll go public in a day or so. The kid played mostly defense, but will grow into an o-lineman, likely a guard. He's quick and pretty strong. He has potential, but will likely redshirt and be a guy that contributes as a redshirt sophomore.

Thad Gibson also had a good visit to OSU, but didn't commit....which is a minor victory for UT. Says he'll decide soon between UT, OSU, and Mich.....but it's mainly between UT and OSU.
