I don't want to come across like a whiner or complainer so please don't take this that way. However, I am a tad concerned about our guys in that it has taken back to back career highs from Lofton to win the last two games (and Florida). I am still traveling so can someone post the box? What was CJ's line? Watching the game I did not feel that he played all that great. He did not have his best game against Kentucky either. I am not saying he played bad, just not as well as I think he is capable.

Maybe I am just looking for a chink in this team. Thoughts?

Sorry, that's not too easy to read. Let me try to fix it..

I have been thinking along similar lines.

If you were planning to play UT in the tournament you would be focusing on keeping the ball out of Lofton's hand. Put your best defender on him, hand in his face, etc. Though we will probably see mostly 1-3-1 but focusing not allowing Lofton to shoot.

Another scoring threat to take the pressure off of Lofton is really needed, either CJ Watson or Patterson need to step up.

On the other hand freaky, we just won two SEC road games against pretty good competition without our senior point guard playing well or our main inside player (Major Wingate) contributing a great deal. Yes we needed Lofton to have career games but these were significant wins for this program at this time.

Great players carry their team when the going gets tough. Lofton is a great player.

There have been other times where Lofton has been quiet and other players step up. Overall, they do what they need to do in order to win.

I wouldn't read into it too much.

CJ getting back on track would help though.

The UGA announce team commented toward the end of the game that we had the look of a team that could make some noise in March because no matter what happened we were going to create turnovers, get good guard play and hit free throws.

We still need more out of Major.

I know that we just won two HUGE road wins and I am not trying to take away from that. I really just want to see someone else step up and get 20 or 15 rebounds or 10 assists. Patterson had a nice 15 and it is good to see JuJuan in double figures again.

Speaking of Major here are the rebound totals:

M. Wingate 5
C. Lofton 6
A. Patterson 6
D. Bradshaw 4
C. Watson 5
J. Smith 4
S. Asumnu 4
J. Howell 0
R. Childress 0

Thats not a typo, Lofton did tie for the team lead in rebounds and outrebounded Major.

Major had a terrible game.

Jujuan was 0-5 from 3 land.

Dane was kind of down tonight.

Stanley should have just stayed home.

CJ was pretty quiet.

If it wasn't for Lofton and Patterson, we would have lost by at least 25

I agree with the FREAK. C.J. needs to step up. He's a senior and he's a great player. He needs to get aggresive :aggressive:

I think UT is going to see mostly 1-3-1 defense the rest of the year. The defender at the top of the circle basically playing man to man on Chris.

Any thoughts.

I think CBP will be hitting the team this week with the 1-3-1 defense. They'll have some plays to run next time they see that kind of defense.

The 1-3-1 certainly shook us up a bit, but we still won. It's easy enough to break that if you know how. Pearl will have them ready for it. No biggie.

i think yall are overlooking the fact that our talent isnt as good as some other teams in the sec. it is just that coach pearl is squeezing everything he can from these guys.

my concern is that eventually the lemon is gonna be squeezed dry.

I don't think we win the SEC tourney but we don't match up badly with any teams in the SEC. We have problems with teams with good big men down the road though.

Okla, I am not sure I follow you about the defender at the top playing Lofton.

Well, when we run into those types of teams then they will do what they have done all year......cause turnovers, cause their own miss matches will a smaller and faster lineup and most important they are one of the best conditioned teams in the nation.

Kind of like the box and 1. Except the other 4 playing the 1-3-1. Whoever is closest to Lofton would be playing a tight man to man to take away any shot.

You might be right. At the rate Lofton has made 3 pointers lately, we are liable to see some junk defenses in the next couple of weeks.

1-3-1 Half-Court Zone Defense

The 1-3-1 zone has the advantage of being able to apply pressure on the outside arc and high post, and allows for some trapping. The major weakness is when the offense attacks from the corners and into the low post. Coaches may differ on who covers what, but you have to decide which is best for your team and make sure your players all understand how you want them to shift and defend.

Study the diagrams below to understand the how the zone shifts, or moves.

http://www.coachesclipboard.net/131zonedefense.htm

All these movements have to be made quickly... a split second too late can make the difference in the opponent scoring. Defenders must "get there" quickly.

My thoughts exactly... every game the Vols have one, someone has stepped up if others have been down. Sign of a good/great team right there.
