Parents are visiting for the holidays and my dad and I are reminiscing. He asked if I remember a transfer QB that he swears up and down played a few games, if not half a season. Said he thinks he was a graduate from possibly a west coast school and transferred to us and ended up starting.

Now I looked back 15 or so years and no one meets that criteria. Maybe any of you smart VolNation folk know of someone that sounds similar, maybe was a backup for us? Dad says he was 6’ 3” white guy. Personally, I think my dad is senile….

The only problem is Chryst never started a game, and only threw 53 passes.

I didn’t recall if he started any - good point - my best guess would have been he started at least once - but that’s was a guess. Alatoree was 40 years ago … but maybe he’s thinking way back ?

Chryst came into the 2018 beatdown against Bama. .can't remember if JG was hurt or pulled...he couldn't throw the ball in the ocean. Chryst went something like 9-15 with two TDs and no picks. Seems like a couple long TDs if I recall... Not sure he played any after that. Threw the ball too well to fit Pruitt's offense I guess.

Chryst didn’t have the same photos of Pruitt and Chaney that JG had. Only explanation for why JG kept the starting role.

I bet he is thinking of Rick Clausen. From west coast and took over during season. After Angie threw a ball behind his head scared and caused a pick.

Mystery Solved:

Matt Simms (6'3") came to Tennessee from El Camino College in Torrance, California. He started 8 games in 2010 and 2 games in 2011.
