My day with Team 118

So as some of you know, I work at the Crowne Plaza hotel downtown and I also cover football for the UT campus newspaper - the Daily Beacon. So I get to go to practices and then see the team at work. haha. I was the guy who posted about Drew Richmonds parents being excited that Drew was going to be a Vol.

Anyways, the team is staying at the Crowne during training camp right now and I was able to chat with quite a few of them today. Some impressions and thoughts on the day...

1) Chris Weatherd is an extremely nice and humble guy. I noticed him and said "What's up Chris?" And he looked around like he didn't know who I was talking to. When I said "yeah you man!" he smiled and asked how I knew his name. I told him I was just a Vol fan and I write for the campus news paper - the Daily Beacon and I recently did a piece covering him and some of the other new guys. He seems so thrilled and excited about people knowing his name and having fans. Glad to have the guy.

2) Similar thing with TKjr. He and I chatted while he was waiting for his shuttle. Extremely nice and talked about how two-a-days suck but it's worth it to play in from of "all those people."

3) Big Charles Mosley's leg is really bummed up. I saw him with Jakob Johnson and chatted with them for a few while they waited for their shuttle as well. Charles seemed in a bad mood (and understandably so with his leg and not being able to play). Johnson was cool. We talked about my experiences in Germany and his transition to d-line. Cool peoples.

4) Curt Maggitt had a boot on his leg. I'm assuming for precautionary reasons, but I don't know what was going on there.

All in all, I spoke with several players and loved it. Jacob Gilliam's dad and I spoke for quite a while. Great guy. AJ Johnson, the Berry bros, Cortez McDowell (riding in the back of a pick up truck bed haha) and several others. I hope to get to chat with them even more. Should be fun.

Maybe u shouldn't have let "them" know where and who u are! "They" may come and take u away:birgits_giggle: Can't b giving out all this vital info. Now "they" watching u! Good luck

Nope. They need him for when the Florida and Alabama teams stay there during game weekend. Someone has to make sure their stay is as unpleasant as possible.

Great post, appreciate the info and insight. And GOD bless you for starting the only new thread in 4 days not trying to convince everybody that Peterman really wasn't that bad last year and will be named our starter any minute now.

It's also illegal. All we need is for UT to be splashed on headlines across the country. I can see it now .. TENNESSEE PLAYERS ARRESTED FOR RIDING IN THE BACK OF A PICKUP. Yep, we'll be UThug agin'. /sarc

Thanks for the great info. If you are an aspiring journalists, please don't use John Adams as your role model. psst-how about slipping some serious laxatives in bammer and gayter food and water. Just kidding.:)

Also, the Vols stay at the Crowne but visiting teams stay somewhere else. Can you imagine a bunch of alpha male football players from rival teams staying at the same hotel? Yeah right.

Well it's not quite Woodward or Bernstein quality of leaking, but it's the best we have so thanks for your observations.

Haha yeah, I can't leak all the good stuff! I have to have something to write about in the Beacon!
