I hope I remember this correctly....from Coach Johnny Majors before the 1986 Sugar Bowl....

"They have no respect for you. Make em remember you for the rest of their lives".........

I believe you got thst verbatim. Probably one of the most notable locker room pep talks since Knute Rockne. All the talk before the game was about Miami's chance of a number one ranking. I was in the stands that night. It was the most deafening crowd noise I have ever heard. My own throat was so sore I couldn't talk for days after that. No doubt Testaverde and Company still wish they could forget that one.

Thanks Volru....hearing Majors say that to his team brings chills to any Vol fan. He had the Big Orange ready to play that night....

a portion of that pep talk is on the vol network's greatest hits...yes before the sugar bowl in 86 majors said "...they don't have any respect for you." "make em remember you as long as you live." he went on to say "attack, attack, attack..."

To be precise, the quote was as follows: "Somebody might say well the fun’s over, let’s get down to business. Well let’s hope the fun is just started. And the only way for fun to start is to keep our minds on our business and play like the Tennessee Volunteers know how to play. And that’s good enough to beat anybody and everybody on any given day. You know that and I know that. First five minutes of the game , these are things that got us where we are. First five minutes. Poise at all times, whether we are ahead, tied, or behind. Discipline. Intimidation factor. I want to reiterate that again. They don’t have any respect for you. Make them remember you as long as they live. The way you hit and the way you knock them downfield. And the way you hustle. Attack, attack, attack. Always attack. And by all means, have fun. What’s it all about if you don’t have a good time out there?" Johnny's finest hour... of many.

For an utterly relentless, 60-minute performance against an outstanding opponent, that may have been the single finest game I have ever seen a Tennessee team play in 44 years of watching them.
