As a UT Fan we have had many ups and downs over the past year. A 5-7 season, losing to the Big 3, and a coaching change with the removal of a coach that didn't think it was his time. Most of us were up in arms about how it would go and all had our own wishes. Some were also willing to let a class go just to get a new system in at UT. Well I think what we all got was something that was more special than any of us could have imagined at the time it happened. We landed a coach that brought us more NFL coaching talent than probably 99% of all universities have employed at the present point in time. We also landed one of the founders of a defense that over the past 10-15 years has been really successful.

One of the issues that came with the changes were recruits that didn't know what was going on and at the time were starting to become stressed and their commits became shaky at best. We started losing recruits before the coaching change ever happened. When that started happening, it proved to the Vol Nation that change was going to start out difficult. We also lost a RB prospect, which ended up being a good thing, because of that very change. Change is a good thing, just wait until you read further.

After all that though, the sun started peaking through on Rocky Top and started to evaporate the tears of the previous season and allowed hope to start creeping in ever so slightly. We hired a recruiting coordinator like no other in Ed Orgeron and multiple coaches that have recruiting pedigrees in the NCAA and their names speak for themselves. Once these coaches got the ball rolling we started picking up steam that UT hadn't seen in a while on the recruiting trail. We started stealing away recruits and laying the groundwork for the 2010 and 2011 seasons while we were at it. We even were patient as a staff, not as a collective fanbase though, and landed the #1 recruit in America. All of this took place and really started the 2nd week of January. For this staff to come this far this fast is nothing short of extrodinary. The entire fanbase should be proud of the job these guys have done and continue to do. In the end all this leaves me hungry for more and most of the fan base. If they can have the success they had in less than 3 months and come away with a Top 10 class, just imagine what they can do with a year or two.

In closing I would like to thank all of the Volnation for all the support that you gave and all the Thank You's we received throughout the year. We worked very hard to bring you what we could and will work even harder to bring you more. The 2009-2010 Recruiting Period has started and so far we are off and running. I look forward to doing my part to contribute what I can to making this the best Recruiting Forum it can be.

uh, you got "thank you's?"

all I ever got was hateful PM's from LSU trolls.

The last couple of months have been fun, though. Nice post, Eric.

Where's that troll that was arguing with me about the possibility of landing a top ten class? Come out of the woodwork you, Nancy!

Well said. What CLK and Co have done in the short amount of time is really nothing short of amazing. I don't know if this has EVER been done before. It's a new era in UT fFootball and it maybe an new era in NCAA football. (I am ecstatic, howver, I was very, very excited when Dave Clawson came on board last year...lord that was painful - that said I think Lane has done more in his last few months than Dave did the entire year)

Great Job on keeping us as informed as you do, being here in Texas it is hard to stay in the loop about the VOLS but this is the first site i go to to get info.
Again Thank You...
