it was the Fall of 2000, a packed stadium to watch the mighty Vols against the Slippery Gators. What happened at that game will always stick in my throat, I have seen some pretty crappy calls since then but the TD that never was just had me standing there shaking my head in disbelief. I thought it was some sort of joke for the tv cameras or something, I was waiting for someone to tell me it was for a commercial shoot. That was my welcome to the screwy world of college football, I replayed Sportscenter that night over and over again with my jaw dropped wondering how in the hell that score was given. Of course I am sure nowadays the tv replay would have overturned that idiots call but it didnt help then. Anyway that was my first unforgettable game at Neyland.

I will never ever ever say or agree that Gaffney "caught" that ball.

I was discussing that call the other day with a buddy and found out something I didn't know. Apparently the official who made the call is a former Vandy tight end. Nice to know that we have unbiased officials in the SEC. :BANGHEAD2:

The real problem with that game was #1, not burying them early in the game when we had the chance, #2, not getting a first down late in the game on 3rd and 1, and #3, letting them drive down the field with less than 2 minutes left.

Like it or not, the Gaffney no catch was icing on the cake. They still had 13 seconds left, and probably would have scored anyway, with the way or d played in the second half.

I wouldn't say they would of overturned it, because Vandy had one last year that was worse than that.

I think I remember that. I could only imagine the havoc wreaked in the south if Vanderbilt beat Tennessee and Florida in the same year on their way to a bowl game.

What was the score? I wanna say we were only up by 2 or 3. I just remember having the feeling that we would have lost anyway. That play still stunk though.
