On the eve of an anniversary of a day that will live in infamy in our country forever, I wanted to remember something great that happened, despite that horrible day. I was a 19 year old kid visiting Knoxville for the first time without restriction (no parents). It was the first game UT was playing after 9/11, and it was versus Nick Saban's LSU team. The night prior to the game we partied at Carrick and then took our "talents" to Hanna's On the Strip. At one point during the night the entire bar broke out in a " USA USA USA"! chant. People standing on tables and bar stools, it was a sight to behold.

Once we regained our faculties, the next day we headed out to the "Strip" again at formerly O'Charley's, now Tin Roof and lost our faculties again. The LSU fans were relentless at the 2 story bar across the street (which name escapes me at this point).

I was lucky enough to get "D" tickets (Great Seats). Going a long way to get a short distance...That night was one of the great nights I've ever experienced in sports or patriotism. It is and will remain my greatest night in Neyland Stadium for many reasons.

Cool story bro. But seriously that's awesome. America needs more pride in their country like that to get us out of the rut we're in.

I was in highschool and had shown up late (per usual). I'll never forget that moment I saw what had happened in New York as I walked into class..

God Bless America, and God Bless the VOLS!

Figured I'd tack this here- My father died 9/11/01, and in his Will he requested his ashes to be spread in the river next to Neyland. Miss you and love you, Dad. GBO, VFL

I was there, that was the very first UT game I ever attended(I had seen UT play Memphis, Houston and Texas Tech.). I too was visiting Knoxville for the first time without my parents, my brother a UT grad took me there for my birthday(I was 17). I don't think there was a dry eye in the house when the national anthem was sung. Kelly Washington set the single game receiving record that night, hell of a time. We also visited the strip the night before the game (the destination escapes me) and we also ran into rowdy LSU fans, seems like we both had a damn good time :-D

Cool story! Probably thinking about Longbranch.

I was on the strip that night without a ticket. Some LSU fans joined our party. I offered to take one of their fans to the stadium after half time and I told him I would try to get him in Neyland. He had never been in the stadium. We waked to the student gate and I asked an old man in green to let him in to see the butt kicking. I showed him my wallet size diploma from UT and he said OK. Just a minute though. The second we walked in the tunnel Washington caught the bomb TD! That made my week! I thanked the old man and we laughed! Go Vols!!

Yes it was definitely the Longbranch. You guys sharing your stories from that weekend make me feel a little better about drunken post from last night.
