My Journey to Alaska and back....again (and other Army/life adventures)

The Citadel already sent my acceptance.

I applied to WSU today.

The odd thing I've found in my research with the school rankings (is the median 6 and 10 yr salaries). Forbes has LSU #139, WSU #144 and The Citadel at #201. Respectfully the #61, #64 and #93 best Public schools.

Now for the salaries: 6 year/10 year. WSU: $50,600/ $124,000. LSU: $50,100/ $119,500. TC: $56,800/ $132,300

That’s interesting, about The Citadel salaries. Are their graduates somehow plugged into a better network? Do they have a more national student body, so including people from high COL areas?

I found it very interesting lol.

I think at least regionally (Southeast), TC is well known and respected.

I can’t imagine the alumni network being huge (small enrollment), but the ones that commission probably make better connections than most.

Citadel likely has better connections to government/GS/contractor jobs for one
Well, straight-ahead gummint job pay at higher GS levels isn’t as good as the private sector (partly compensated for by better benefits, etc.) Contracting might well be different. Mine wasn’t that well-paid (I worked two jobs a lot of the time,) but I’m sure it’s a lot higher for other fields.

I was always amazed how hard it was to get part of the budget allocated to things we GS-ers were doing, but there seemed to be endless money available for contractors.

In my experience, it depends on the field. For me, a GS job far exceeds civilian sector, I assume because of my clearance

True, it's probably all over the map. My field was definitely underpaid when only considering salary, compared to the private sector, but I was ok with that. (Plus had the side gig as a contractor, doing the same thing as in my day job.)

I enjoyed my time as a Fed. (And for all those who think we all got cushy pensions, those days are long past.) I liked what I did, I liked serving veterans, I liked the working conditions (none of that crap with your phone ringing at 9 at night and on vacation), I worked my ass off, and I was proud to be serving my country.

It's definitely a different mindset from working for a for-profit dot-com.

Man, I don't know if the Tennessee in me will allow me to go to LSU.

There are a few things that draw me to The Citadel. One, being a "military" college. Two, I like the idea of there only being 2 class rings (cadet and non-cadet).

I have about 2 weeks before I really have to decide.

Hope and pray you make the best decision for you and your family.

Thanks man, even if you are a secret GA fan.

I think I will push my start date to January to do more research. I feel like I'm rushing just to keep the momentum, but what's 3 months in the grand scheme of things?

AACSB accreditation is important. But by waiting a few months, I can attend a Top 50ish overall school in America (I'm a vet, I had a 4.0 undergrad, and I'm a minority, I'm getting in anywhere lol).

So after consulting family and some friends, I will attend LSU.

There is no point to wait until January to "just have a better name" on the degree so to speak for my purposes.
Remote learning or on campus?
