At this point in time a loss is expected, given the recent history of the program. We know it will take time for Butch to start winning with any sort of regularity and in the meantime, it looks and feels good to see us field a competitive team even if we do lose. Getting regularly trounced like UTEP is so far beneath UT that I can't even believe I have to explain this.

Did you expect Butch to perform a miracle on this roster? Did you really expect us to compete with Oregon and Alabama? Those were our only other blowout losses besides Mizzou.

Get a grip man. Give it at least another year before you start complaining about competing. With your logic Nick Saban would have been fired at Alabama. So would have Pete Carroll .

Never understood that argument. A loss is a loss. Particularly with what has been said around here about how superior our talent is and why there's no excuse for losing to Mizzou. The only permissible outcome was a victory with Volnation logic.

There is no shame in going on the road to #1 Alabama and #9 Mizzou and playing tough yet losing. It would be showing progress to play tough competitive games on the road in the SEC. However, we aren't doing that.

As a fan, I would be satisfied with showing progress, which to me means not getting beat like a rented mule.

If you look at Auburn's schedule they really have beaten one quality team on the road and that is a Texas A&M team without a good defense. They only play 4 road games. Im not sure they are a legitimate top 10 team. Do we beat them. Im not sure. But they are not South Carolina. Missouri or Alabama good in my opinion. Could be closer than you all think. Im not expecting a win. But i do see it as obtainable.

Our team does not match up well with good offensive teams like Auburn. I suspect we will be beaten handily this weekend.

HOWEVER, it will not be an indictment on the coaching staff. If you look at our record versus what the experts have predicted in Vegas, we have overachieved. That's right, we have won every game in which we've been favored, and then one other in which we were underdogs. We have been significant underdogs in every game we have lost (but, hey, what do those people in Vegas know, right--they only have millions of dollars at stake on their point spreads.).

I will not judge this staff one way or the other until we get into next season. They have not yet had the time to put out the dumpster fire they inherited. And, they won't have time to do so until they have a couple of their own recruiting classes in the fold. Even then, I could see us winning 7 to 8 games next year. But, that might prove to be overly optimistic depending on the strength of the teams we play.

Next year will be year 2 in a rebuilding program. We haven't won more than 7 games since 2007. Six years ago. Why do people think we will win 7 or 8 next year?

Lane is > neal. Even butch said his reps will increase and our OL did play a horrible game.

Just sayin

Our line is talented enough to be one of the very best, but the question to ask our coaches is why are we trying to run block out of a standing pass block stance? Put their hand on the ground lower their pad level and move people.

They ONLY beat A&M on the road???? ONLY??? With the returning Heisman trophy winner at QB no less.

I'd rather compete with a guy who gets pissed after losing than play with one who smiles and accepts it. We don't accept mediocrity around here, and we're below that right now. People handle shat in diff ways. Let them

Hey dude I never said crap about firing Butch, don't put those words in my mouth. (got the sense you're insinuating I want him gone) I'm not one of the retards calling for his head, I'm full Butch but these embarrassing losses are hard to stomach. I know Butch will get it done, the W over USC and the near upset of UGA had me thinking we could perhaps compete against Mizzou.

I trust Butch. These current players will only get better. And I'm practically drooling while I wait for National Signing Day...

Don't forget, Saban lost to Louisiana Monroe in his first season at Bama.

Lol this. Auburn is the real deal. They've consistently recruited in the top 10, possibly top 5. They just didn't have the coaching last season. That was the easiest "rebuild" job to take of the offseason, IMO.

I think we will see the benefits of better coaching show up more next year. But, as my original post stated, that might be overly optimistic depending on our competition. Our roster will be better, but young.

I cant complain when our average at best rbs are getting 5+ yards a carry without a real passing threat, sorry.

2 weeks ago everything was all daisies and roses after an upset of SCjr. Now we're back to "OL sucks" and "Lane > Neal" and who could forget "bad playcalling that's predictable" (forgetting that Dobbs is in there).

Go Volnation.

IMHO, there needs to be changes in the OL. Bullard is the guy I see getting beat the most and unfortunately James. None of them show much "nasty" except maybe Fulton. Do they "suck"? No. They have talent... they just aren't applying it. When I have people like that... They either get going or get gone.

Allowing guys who aren't performing to go on and on is a disease you never want infecting your team. It kills morale and in the end benefits no one concerned.

I don't think the OC called a bad game. I am not angry that Dobbs made mistakes even though you could say they contributed greatly to the loss. He was also about the only bright spot on O. The OL played poorly IMO... that is well under their ability. ALOT of standing around. For once, I'd like to see one of them get flagged for blocking after the whistle.

I am VERY disappointed and disillusioned by the performance of the D and D coaches. Mizzou has played a WEAK schedule. They had their 2nd highest rushing total vs UT... basically on one, very simple play... a sweep usually to the left. Nothing tricky. Just guys consistently leaving cut back lanes, over running the play, or getting pushed 6-8 yards downfield before making a tackle.

That isn't a speed problem. It is a problem of coaching and player discipline.... and toughness. The MU's SLOW OL just flat out toughed UT's front 7.
